What digital interconnect are you using with your BDP-1?

What digital interconnect are you currently using to connect your BDP-1 to your DAC?

Details, including make/model of cable and DAC, would be useful.  What else have you tried?  Pleased with what you are using?

I am asking some of these questions as a new BDP-1 user both selfishly, but also hoping to build some useful posts for other current/future Bryston users as well.

Thanks!

I use the following AES/EBU cable, cheap but using good quality parts, sounds great to me:

I have also tried an IXOS 105 RCA-RCA (with BNC adapter) and I have a Mark Grant BNC-RCA, I could not pick out out either cable when testing!

The connection is BDP-1 to BDA-1

Cheers

Van den Hul here:
Aes/Ebu http://www.vandenhul.com/p_B02.aspx
Optocoupler: http://www.vandenhul.com/p_B42.aspx
Digicoupler: http://www.vandenhul.com/p_B22.aspx BNC and RCA made on order

I must say I always find it very difficult to hear real differences, but I wanted to be on the safe side with these. Great interconnects for a reasonable price.

I have the BDP-1 and the BDA-1 connected both balanced and unbalanced, XLR and RCA, just to be able to try different sonics. I believe I hear more ambiance in the balanced connections. They make me feel more "in the concert hall". As a professional musician I immediately hear "the hall". Daily practice made my ears lock-in automatically. In good recordings you can hear that. That's where I feel the XLr/balanced connection shines.

And of course bad recordings are just that, but I do want to hear that too. I once had a Denon cd-player in testing, and it made the out of tune horns in tune, by warming the sound of the recording. I hate that. I want them out of tune! http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-Parsifal-Knappertsbusch-Richard/dp/B00005IB5N Amazing recording, on my hdd now for sure.

Marius

My AES/EBU connection is Mogami 3080 / 110 ohm cable
The RCA/BIN ( SPDIF ) uses Mogami 2964 / 75 ohm cable
Both cables are one foot in length and both use Neutrix connectors

My system is fully balanced
BDP-1 > Emotiva XDA-1 > Emotiva XPA-1's
I prefer the AES/EBU, the SPDIF does seem 'warmer' - maybe

Hi Terry, one day I would love to have a chance to do a shoot out between our cables as they are at the opposite end of the scales...

Cheers

I use a Morrow Audio Dig4 AES/EBU cable between my BDP-1 and BDA-1.

To my ears, it sounded better than the DH Labs AES/EBU cable and a Stereovox BNC-BNC cable.

The other cable that is on my radar screen is a WyWires AES/EBU cable, but I haven't had the opportunity to hear one.

Wywires LITESPD (SPDIF) re-terminated for Furutech BNC for BDP-1.  Very nice.

Only compared it with Black Cat veloce.

Right now I have DH Labs AES/EBU, Stereovox HDVX BNC-BNC, and Bluejeans BNC-BNC.  Out of the three, to my surprise, the Bluejeans sounds the best to me.  It seems to be the most balanced.  The DH Labs is the smoothest and fullest sounding of the three, but it lacks the ambiance and spatial ques of the of Bluejeans.  Stereovox sounds thin and flat compared to the other two.   But I consider these to be "budget" cables, so I'm not quite satisfied with them.  I have a VH Audio Pulsar Ag bnc-bnc on the way, so we'll see how that works out.

Someone told me that the cable in this position (with the bdp-1 at least) is very important to the over all sound of the system.   He auditioned a bunch and kept the Nordost Odin AES/EBU.   Has anyone else tried this $10k cable with their BDP-1?  :o

I think that all of my interconnects are less than $10 each.  Make my own with Neutrik connectors, (XLR, RCA, BNC) and appropriate Canare wire.  I would rather spend my money on hardware and software.

KImber Kable Orchid AES/EBU.  Very nice.  Also tested Kimber Select AES/EBU and S/PDIF. Both excellent....the AES/EBU sounded warmer, fuller. The sheen from cymbals was awsome. The S/PDIF was a bit more detailed but a litlle thinner sound.   But don't know if if the difference in price is worth it.

The DH Labs d-110 AES and Stereovox BNC/BNC were mine, but when I auditioned George's BDP-1 I reached the same conclusion....the Morrow Dig4 (AES/EBU) was my fave.

Ted,
After your listening adventures, do you plan on purchasing the Morrow Dig4?
