bdp-1 not appearing on network
« on: 6 Jun 2011, 02:34 am »
I would like to add music files to the hard drive with out removing the hard drive each time to transfer the music. On my main computer (window vista), I can use bryston max but the bdp-1 does not appear on the network. Mpod also works on my ipod touch. My laptop (window 7) does not see the bdp-1 on the network nor can I use bryston max. This is not a huge problem but if anyone has any ideas to get the bpd-1 to appear on the network it would be appreciated.

Just for kicks, make sure you have the ethernet cable connected and the link lights are lite or you can confirm the mPode works.  Either is fine.   Once you have that, just wait for a for about 10 minutes for your router and your computer to discover the network devices.   You should be able to browse to http://bryston-bdp-1.local and see the setup bryston mini and max.   Once you can see that, your Windows Explorer should also see a network computer and share called bryston-bdp-1.local.

Make sure you have no unique settings like DMZ settings with your router and VPN client installed on your computer.

I've got a related situation: I can get the BDP in the Max interface, and play from an attached HDD. But I can not get it to stay in the Mac finder, i appears/disappears. When it is there, I can not connect to it, to send files to it from my Mac. Using bryston/bryston as login and password.

Should there be any visible clue to the different USB inputs on the BDP1? I've got none. See only "USB" and Playlists below the "homepage".

Hi marius,

In finder - click GO menu - connect to server - and the server is smb://bryston-bdp-1.local - then click GO or OK.

If it says server not found try the IP address instead of bryston-bdp-1.local.

James,

that's what I've been doing. I can see the Bryston in the finder half the time, but can not connect to it. Both in ip-adress mode or servername mode:

It;s playing wunderfully though at the moment and I can see the bdp1 in Max.

it says : connection failed, server does not exist or is unavailable, check etc etc etc

Are you making sure the drive is attached before you turn on the BDP-1?

Mac checks every few (about 15-20) minutes for attached drives on the network. So the BDP-1 has to be 'ON' for the MAC to find it.

I use a windows 7 computer and no issues with finding the BDP-1 on the network. Windows looks for the network drives every time you click on Networks icon.

yes, i'm sure, because it is never turned off....When MAx sees it and Ipad/Mpad sees it, Finder should see it? Weel in fact finder does see it, i just can not connect to it.

My mac is wireless, which is no problem for Max, would it be usefull to check if the problem is still there, when wired? I'll do that right now. No, nothing changed. Might it have to do with the airport-settings:

automatic proxy, or any other setting?

Marius,
If you click on the "Connect As" (Verbind Als) in your first screen a window should come up asking for user name and password (bryston and bryston) and then you should see the drives attached to the bdp-1.  Does that not work?

Hi Tony,

No, this is what it looks like:

with this as result:

ie, nothing happens, connection failed (verbinding mislukt). Both wired and wireless. Maybe of interest: my Marantz Na7004 doesn't show up at all, while being reachable through "marantz-na7004.local" in the webbrowser. Same thing?

Revert the webproxy settings to their defaults, this isn't needed for SAMBA/network share.     Straight out of the box, all of this will work, so what have you customized?

Marius,
Here is what I get after entering the bryston/bryston.  I can then click on Music-1 which is the name of the attached drive and see the directory structure.  I open a second finder window and just drag files from the PC to the BDP-1.  I don't know what is going on with your system.

What are your firewall settings like?   Have you tried with it disabled?

What is your router?  I've might have missed it, but if your router has a "guest mode" make sure that is disabled to test

I've got a D-link 855 router. And the Bdp1 is seen by it. Has to be, because I can control it through the MAx an Mpad interface, and it shows up in Mac Finder.

No firewall settings....

Suddenly I realized that I've got two wireless radio's. The one on my router, and a wired Apple Airport Express I use as a wireless extender in my auditorium, because the Dlink doesn't have a strong signal in here, its rather a long way away, and ist a large auditorium.
I have a cat6 dedicated line for all my A/V gear  which has a Zyxel 8 gigabit-port switch (with the bryston look...) connected to it. Also the Bdb-1. (and the mentioned AExpress) The bdp1 is thus hardwired all the way through.

Just for testing purposes, I tried to connect my Mac to the router-radio (the one with the weak signal) instead of the stronger Airpoirt Express radio, et voila, the BDP1 is found in my Mac finder!!!
Switching back to the Airport Express, it still is there.....

Hope this stays...

Just to prove things to you (and James, mind the order of the Elgar Oratorium: it is the correct one.....)

funny thing is, I can now play the music of my HDD attached to the BDP1 over the network into Amarra or Audirvana on my wireless Mac. Streaming after all.. :D

one happy customer in this room.

That's great news Marius.  :thumb:

I have found the nice thing about including a Bryston USB demo thumb drive with the BDP is if it plays fine through your system all other issues are network or drive issues.

yes me too...thanks.
afraid to push the on/off button though..

funny thing is that via a rather large detour, I'm back again to my original problem: the BDP1 not playing the Chandos USB sticks in the right order.....(see above, where the Mac finder does show it right). I believe to be rather certain now that when and where the original recording consisted of more than 1 cd, they are put into 1 folder in the Chandos USB. BDP1 plays them ordered numerical but doesn't see the separate cd's, and thus mixes them up altogether. Cd1 track 1, cd2 track 1, cd1 track2, cd2 track 2 ec etc. Most other machines and software programs read them in the correct order, as seen above.

I can make a correct playlist in the Max softwareinterface, but do not believe that would have to be done. In fact it feels rather clumsy and un-userfriendly. I just want to load a usb-stick, or folder on a HDD for that matter, and hit play. Just like in the old days with old fashion cd's....As Bryston says: we have to see the BDP1 as a modern-age  cd player. Well, it should act as one!

Marius (downloading gigabytes of music right now... :P)

ps James, how do I delete a single track out of a playlist again? You must have mentioned it somewhere, but I can't find it anymore. Keep having to delete the whole playlist....and start over again
