Hi R. Daneel and all Audio Circle members.
Please find below one of the eight (08) cassettes I have.
Wow ! I did not know that I had a little fortune on my audio shelves.
I don't think I will offer them for sales,
because one day I would like to get my Nakamichi fixed.
My location is on planet Vietnam.
Here they cannot repair it, as a matter of fact,
they made things worst by loosing a little belt for the time counter.
May I ask you to give me one or two names of good, honest,
knowledgeable technicians that can fix my Nakamichi BX100,
the problem as something to do with the belts
and/or the pulley(s) according to the Vietnamese technician.
One day, I will go back to my home country Canada
and get it fixed so I can record some music,
because with vinyl, cassettes can last a very long time.
I have some VHS cassettes that were recorded more than 25 years ago
and they still play fine.
Waiting for your recommendations.
Thanks.

Hi!

Vietnam is a long way from Canada! But okay, here are a few people you can reach on a forum called tapeheads.net and these are the people who know Nakamichi:

Mr. Leonardo Montedoro a.k.a. DottorWalkman - Italy
Mr. Alex Nikitin a.k.a. A.N.T. - England
Mr. Tom (I don't know his last name) a.k.a. NakDoc - United States

There are others of course but these are the ones I know. Alex will possibly offer you a better machine that has been restored by him and his machines are known to be faultless and he also designs his own phono preamps and headphone amps that have been reviewed in several magazines. Never believe a technician that says it cannot be good as new because it is old. If vintage cars can be restored to work like they were made yesterday, then so can cassette decks.

As for the Sony Metal-SR, I quite enjoy that generation. The sound is far from neutral but it offers a rather warm bass and a certain presence in the mids that makes it enjoyable. The high-end is smooth even if it is not extended as something of a TDK MA of the same era. I have Dire Straits on this generation of Metal-SR and the Knopfler's red Stratocaster sounds great!

First, here is the history of Nakamichi.
http://www.classicaudio.com/value/nak/index.html
You may want to contact Brian at classicaudio.com who was the original repair man for all Nakamichi stuff in U.S.
As far you are in Vietnam right now, why not try Japan which was the home of Nakamichi.
Try this site:

Hi PRELUDE and all Audio Circle members.
Thanks for the link (Very interesting)
and the contact name to help me revive my Nakamichi BX100.
I like very much that cassette deck.
To me, anything produce on this planet should last and/or be repairable
for a minimum of 20 years.
Especially when you like something.
I've been using my 35 USD Nokia mobile phone without any problem, no repair, no battery change, still the original battery, that's something unusual fior something at that price. To me, that's the way it should be for most of the consumer's items.

You are interested in purchasing a $10K turntable (used but still sealed[?]) and the dealer refuses to take it out of the box for you to look at it

Be well...

Used music stores that do not mark the price on the LP or CD and check on e-bay for the price when you inquire as to how much it is.

They have no clue what they have. they charge full price while you do their work and file through everything to see what they got.  Ghetto record store run by hipsters.

You are checking out the "For Sale" ads for CD collections and people are selling their pirated, burned CDs - this really crosses the line!

Some of the songs can be very rare, like we didn't go for the popular stuff. Like I had this trumpet version of 'Hang Em High' that I just loved. Then my hard drive crashed. I searched and searched but could not find that version again, and I still mourn the loss of that song. :bawl:

Oh, and this one.  RCA connectors.  The ground disconnects while the signal is still connected every time it's plugged or unplugged. BZZZ!  So derpy.
Boy, I sure agree with that one!  I prefer balanced connections if only because they use a better connector.

By the way folks our Bryston RCA connectors have a spring assembly and make ground first when inserting the RCA and break ground last when being disconnected - no pops! :thumb:
