Cheap dump that looks like a Turkish prison... Close.. too close.
I live below my means in a cheap apt (i used to live in a place that was under 15% of my monthly income, but it got condemned. (not MY apt, which was pretty nice, but the whole building got shut-down for endless code violations ... I did my OWN repairs.).
I moved up-scale and now pay $500 a month heat included, including indoor parking across from a nice park in a quiet building. So i still have a pile of money left for music and stereo stuff. i easliy could spend three times as much for nothing more than a better zip code.

I think he was referring to my Man Cave. :|

Hi Laundrew:  FWIW - The sticky residue left behind on the jewel case after you finally claw off the last of the security label can easily be removed with rubbing alcohol.
D.D.

Hey, I just tried that tonight on my daughters windshield that had tree sap all over it. It worked like a charm. :thumb: Goo-gone wouldn't cut it. But i did use the upgraded/tweeked version 91% rubbing alcohol  :D

Fanaticism about company XYZ from JoeBob about how great the company is. Some here have idol worship for the engineers/owners of products. Nothing sounds as good as JoeBob says it does.

So true, I remember chatting with one dealer on the phone about a CD player and she asked me what amplifier I was going to purchase. By this time, I had decided on the 28s and told her this - oh, you can do much better than them, she told me. I asked her what she did not like about the 28s sound and she told me....

" Don't know - I have never listened to them"

 :duh: :duh: :duh:

Be well...

Good one Laundrew.

About two years ago, I called a local dealer and was trying to setup an appointment to audition a pair of speakers they were carrying.  Same thing as you, the person asked what amplifier I would be using and when I told him that I had a Linn Akurate power amp, he told me that he refused to audition the speakers unless I was willing to get a "better" amp.  When I asked for a recommendation, he of course insisted on a model he was selling.  Then when I asked him what was wrong with the Linn amp, he couldn't provide an answer (silence on the phone).

Long story short, I never visited his store nor would I ever purchase anything from him.

Responding to a forum topic by quoting half a dozen paragraphs and a dozen photos to contribute a sentence or two.

It is sort of funny how some audio dealers shoot themselves in the foot with foolish attitudes.

That used to be really common back in the day. going to an audio store and the salesman was almost expected to be a snob.. Acting like naturally you know NOTHING, and they are the guru dispensing wisdom.
Now it is a lot rarer. Most of those audio salesmen have moved on to new jobs.. As shoe store clerks I guess.

The remote on my Denon 4806 receiver is "the remote from hell".
It has a touch screen. ALL the important things are via the touch screen. Too bad the screen always turns off before i make the next selection!!
So IF I knew exactly every commandand where it is and the sequence of screens, i could get through the stuff using the remote. As it is, i usually get to the second or third screen and it turns off. So i have to start over. It is the most damned thing i have ever owned. total P.O.S. plus double P.I.T.A. all in one small device.  :deadhorse:
We had a salesperson here in Vancouver that always made analogies of audio gear to various  brands of cars.guess he thought that was clever. It was boring and :shake: mostly drove people out of the store......

Sales people that refuse to respect your knowledge of what you came into the store for.  This type of joker always knows better what you want and then tries to up sell you something else. : :argue:

Most times the " Bad recording" is out of phase. My pet peeve is a lack of a polarity invert switch. when "in" the proper polarity bass is better defined and focused. vocal sibilants are better controlled. Sound is fuller and the soundstage larger.
Granted a bad recording is a bad recording nothing will improve that. Until you have the option of changing polarity you'll just never know.

It's nice to have the BP26 for the polarity switch.  :thumb:

Yup. I NEVER buy anything used without good pics anymore. The term "mint" gets thrown around WAY too loosely. I bought a somewhat old Denon CDP the seller said was mint, about a year ago. I received it and it was certainly not mint. His excuse was that it is "mint for its age." Pretty sure age (or using age as a reason for sign of use) shouldn't enter the equation when the term "mint" is used. If something is old, but mint, it should be in like time capsule condition. Period. Major pet peeve. :duh:

That 's a feature I'm glad to have with my bp25. It will be on my peeve list if that  is taken away. :thumb:

One other great curiosity is folks arguing from audiophile 'theory' (which they mostly make up as they go along) aguing against someone's practical experience with thier own equipment.
Like the person who actually did the experiment has to be wrong, becuse the other persons' made up theory says it has to be wrong.

This is a real problem if it was not so funny and stupid at the same time.

As always, Elizabeth, a very cogent post, and a situation quite prevalent in audio salons as well as forums. Here in California wine country, your observations can be readily extended to wine snobs: if this $200 bottle doesn't taste good to you, well, you're wrong.

A pet peeve for your consideration: the conundrum of merging computer and audio technologies. Yes, so many benefits (e.g., finally excellent digital sound via such well-designed components as the BDP-2 and BDA-2), but so many hassles with so many products (thankfully, rarely Bryston's): incompatibilities, rapid obsolescence, mysterious glitches, feature creep, requisite tech expertise. It's certainly a Hobson's choice, for who would want to give up the benefits of high-res digital? Yet, there is a price for the rewards.

Cheerio,

Rich
