I revisited the internet radio tonight on the BDP-1 as last time I had some streaming issues, it all ran fine tonight and I have to say I'm amazed at the audio quality of the stations chosen, at first I was a little unsure of only having 10 to flick through but as the ones chosen are of such high quality it takes out all the hassle of filtering the wheat from the chaff yourself.

The only problem is that I spent most of the night listening to 'Absolutely Country Hits'

James, the channels chosen really offer a great spectrum of different music genres but is there any chance going forward that you'd consider adding maybe 'Planet Rock' or a similar station to cater for us old rockers out here  :)

Thanks.

Hi Folks

I have about 10 Internet radio stations loaded on a beta software on my BDP and so far so good.

The list of available stations shows up as the call letters under the heading RADIO 1 under Playlists in Bryston MINI or MAX or MPOD or MPAD etc. When you click on a station the song and artist will show up and you can scroll through the stations listed exactly like you would with a song playlist.

You can also create you own list of stations say Radio Favorites with just the stations you want to listen to on a regular bases. Because you can only use the list included in the internal software how many stations do you think we should include?  I was thinking maybe 10 of the top recommended stations?

James

PS - the Bryston BDA-1 DAC decodes the Internet radio stations at 44.1 which you can upsample to 176/24 if you want.
James, how does one upsample internet radio to 176/24 on the BDA1? Also, does upsampling on the BDA1 have any effect on the music being played thru th BDP1?

Hi

To up-sample just push the up-sample button on the BDA-1.  It does not affect the BDP-1.

Does the upsampling work incremetally or does it automatically got to 176/24 when you are tuned into internet radio? Also, when using a cd player thru the BDA1 pushing the upsample button, does it only upsample to 192 or can 96 be had? I'm only asking because my BDA1 is only 2 weeks old and I'm not sure how to operate itjust yet. I had a Cary CD player that I could upsamle all the way to 768 and each push of the button was incremental.

If you push the UPSAMPLE button on the front panel then the incoming digital signal will be ‘SYNCHRONOUSLY UPSAMPLED’ and turn (Green or Amber)depending on the incoming sample rate. (Green if the incoming is 48 or 96K and Amber if 44.1 or 88.2K)

If the sample rate coming in is 44K or 88.1K the BDA-1 upsamples to 176K

If the sample rate coming in is 48K, or 96K the BDA-1 upsamples to 192K.

The upsample feature works on all inputs (including the I2S USB input) assuming the Upsample button is push.

If the incoming signal is 'native' 176K or 192K then no upsampling occurs.

Hope this helps explain it better?

So the upsampling will automatically go to 176k or 192k depending on incoming signal if the button is pushed. Will playing a file ripped from a CD to a USB drive with a sample rate of 44k and played thru the BDP1 be upsampled to 176 if the button is pushed? I assume not from your earlier answer.

Yes any input to the BDA-1 (from any source) at 44.1 will get up-sampled to 176 if the up-sample button is engaged.

Sorry for going OT but I couldn't let this go. The USB input also accepts I2S? Has this been discussed before? Isn't this kind of a big deal?

Yes it is important. What we do on the USB input is come in I2S and use the quality up-sampler in the BDA-1 to do the up-sampling.

I have feelings of envy. Could I too possibly have Planet Rock?
