How all that sound can come from a mass produced plastic disc never ceases to amaze me. Enjoy!

Have a good time in Texas last night Dave?

Chicago has some mean-ass blues too. I was there a couple of times. Couldn't stand the weather.

That was the album that prompted the post Neo followed by Soul to Soul.
It was just one of those moments - I know we've all had them  :P

I know we've got different opinions on the Denon DL-S1 in our respective systems, but it continues to be a great match here   8)

Cheers

Couldn't Stand The Weather is indeed a masterpiece with amazing dynamics and soundstage a mile wide. Tin Pan Alley is one of my favorites.  :D

I was over at the Asylum and John Ellison mentioned that he's using the DL-S1. Seems like he stumbled on a 30 ohm load by accident, and that's what is working out for him. Must admit I never would have thought to try that. The cart has an impedance of 30 or 40 ohms. I could hear the potential but couldn't quite get it nailed down. Glad it's working out for you.

BTW, you should take the M20FL Super off your site. Those samples are NOT representative of the cart. You got a dud. I don't care what Thakker said. He probably never even tested it after you sent it back. More likely he just gave you a refund and said something to make you feel obligated to get something else from him. That's how dealers operate. Trust me, I know.

100% With you on this Mitsu 8)
I played it again on Saturday just to make sure it was the music and not the wine
Sure enough it still sounded stunning. :D

Interesting Neo,
I’ve only trialled it at 100 and 200 ohms and the influences were very subtle.
My phonostage allows options down to 17 ohms so I think a little further experimentation is in order.

Re. the Ortofon M20FL – Yes this was indeed an interesting exercise.
I know I was a bit of a lone voice in a rather large sea of positivism.
I was expecting a VMS 30 II with bells on, but instead got a pretty lifeless presentation requiring a significant increase in resistive loading to get it close to what I would have expected.

OK now pulled from my website.
I suppose it's a bit of a lesson re. the risks of buying NOS

Thanks for the DL-S1 tip

Sounds like a cereal..... will it sound better if you add milk?
I guess that would be playing it "wet"?

Hi Ozark,
You're obviously suffering from a case of digititus nervosa. Nothing to be ashamed of, it's a disease. Symptoms include inability to distinguish harmonic and tonal content in music reproductions, and loss of judgement, ie. ability to discern appropriate places to go to the bathroom. Sometimes suffers from this disease also have delusions of grandeur. There is a cure, but as with many suffering from nervous system disorders, you probably don't want to hear it.
Get well soon,

When I finally got custody of my oldest daughter, I took her, my oldest son (2 years her junior) and wife to see SRV at an outdoor venue here in Columbus. Bought the kids a beer (16,14....my kids and I'm allowed) First major concert for either.  A month later, SRV was gone.  Shit!!!!!!!

(ooops....not correct.....I took my son to see Pink Floyd at Ohio Stadium for his 13th birthday)

Hi Ozark,
You're obviously suffering from a case of digititus nervosa. Nothing to be ashamed of, it's a disease.

I wondered about that. Maybe the three Absolute Sound reviewers gave it to me. I was at the CES show in a room with three of their top reviewers, HP was not there. The room had a Sota TT, SME 3009 tonearm, and Koetsu Roseood cartridge, about $3300 at that time. They also had a CAL CD player, $795 retail. I had taken my CD of The Nylons to the show. They had the LP, so the fun of it, I challengd everyone in the room to compare the difference.

Everyone there was confident the analog would beat the digital handily. But everyone picked the CD as superior, six people total. It was real funny to watch the Absolute Sound reviwer's faces turn red with bewilderment. Yep, maybe they gave me that disease.

I was a high-end dealer for about 15 years, and every customer I ever challenged picked the CD as superior. I had Sota, Linn, VPI, and Micro-Seiki TT's to compare them too. I used the best tonearms with Koetsu cartridges.

Hi Ozark,
You had that one rigged didn't you? Just because you had the one decent digital recording that sounds better on a tube player, than a particular cartridge, doesn't prove much. You knew in advance that it would be so. I was never partial to those cartridges myself, and I suspect it's just that combo and recording that gave you the opportunity you're bragging about.

You must admit, that is not the norm. Why do you think the faces turned red? They weren't expecting that, because it's usually the other way around. You are/were not much of a high end dealer if all you offer is Koetsu carts. Maybe that's good though, for the Ozarks, I wouldn't know.

BTW, this happens to be the vinyl circle, if that digititus has you disoriented. Are you sure you want a pissing contest?
Regards,
neo

No P contest, never meant to rustle any feathers. A not so well known trade secret, try an AR ES-1 turntable from the 80's with your vinyl.  One of the best imaging and soundstage you will efer hear with your LP's. It beat all those other tables I mentioned plus the Oracle and Pink Triangle. Since it came from a mid-fi company, the audio mags shunned the ES-1.

But to hear a master tape? That is a huge improvement over both LP and CD. That makes you want to throw the other two formats away.
