50 Greatest Guitar Riffs in Rock 'n' Roll....

This list seems biased against Punk/Garage bands where the guitar riff is just about everything.Where is the Stooges,Ramones,Clash etc.? and a list of Keith Richard's riffs would fill the list of 50 alone.

Interesting subject. I once mentioned to Wolfy something that Pat Metheny once said...."Rock guitarists play riffs and Jazz guitarists tell stories" Wolfy looked at me and said Rock musicicians/guitarists also tell stories. Of course they do. And Pearl Jam's lead guitarist is an example.

While a chord progression can be a riff or a lick (I think riff and lick are both slang terms for the same thing), a riff may not be a chord progression.

I think most riffs are too short to be considered a "guitar solo", but they are very effective at tieing pieces of music together.

Like in the MASH movie, it was nothing more then a series of shots, but when they focused in on the loudspeaker, it tied the otherwise hopelessly pointless movie into a classic.

Jimmy Page is like legndary, Blackmore, etc... I didn't read the list but I can tell by the omissions it might not be a great list. Wolf?????? LOL>>>>>>>
