Here's some more of old Flash Fingers - Alvin is really an overlooked guitarist.
I saw him live at a small college in South Jersey back in the 1980s with Ten Years Later and he was just astonishing.  His style is so fluid and he makes it look so effortless.

For riffs, Zappa's Muffin Man is pretty catchy.  This is from the DVD Baby Snakes and I'm afraid I'm actually on film in it.

GREAT CUT Steve!

If anyone can watch and listen to that cut without bodyparts spontaneously moving (head bopping/foot tapping) then I suggest you call your Doctor on Monday

Another one to think about
Bob Seger - Like a Rock..... I like the lyrics and the extended lead guitar "solo". Great tune

I nominate "Rock Bottom"...UFO. Just a great, great riff.
How about "Do you feel like we do", not sure if that is the real name of the song from Peter Frampton but I can go for days battling to get that riff out of my head.
"Stayin' Alive" Bee Gees. Hey just as much rock as "Beat It" and a nice riff. In my opinion the bass line from "Billie Jean" is one of the best there is but it is not a guitar riff.

Don't know if it qualifies as a riff, but a classic lead-in - Intro to Sweet Jane

Not familiar with any of Steve Hunter's other work, but that is a classic.

+1 for Alvin, and here's some early work with Mylon Lefevre that's pretty sweet -

Jeff Beck's cover of Stevie Wonder's "Cause We Ended as Lovers" is one long, magnificent guitar lick.

How can this list not have CCR "Born On The Bayou"??? You can't help but know that song as soon as the feed back intro hits and  excellent beginning riff (not to mention it's a great rock song).

A rather obscure one that a hi fi shop turned me on to.... used as a demo on the dyna C4s and Naim gear. Zakk Wylde- Book of Shadows is the CD and the tune is Way Beyond Empty..... The owner said Zakk played lead with Ozzie O

No mention of Jethro Tull on the list, but you could make a strong case for several memorable riffs....Aqualung, Cross Eyed Mary, Locomotive Breath....
