Is there a Difference in Sound if the MPS-2 is installed under the BP26 or beside the BP26  or on top of the BP26

There is a very slight advanatge in noise floor if the MPS-2 is on top of the BP26 vs below (2dB).  I assume the 'beside' would be similar to on top.

James, thanks for your feedback

Since I’m waiting for my Feet of Silence for my Solo 3 Rack. I Have installed a smaller rack next to My Solo 5 Rack...
My BP26 is side by side my MPS2 . The sound has changed for the better coming out of My BCD-1 .....

My Oracle is on Top of Solo 5 for now.

Would that be similar to having the BDA-1 on top of BP26?

Hi,

No the MPS-2 has a small effect only because of the huge transformer in it.

Any chance that other Bryston units will be developed to use the MPS 2?  Like the BDA?

That was the original idea but when we discovered that the Digital products required separate and specific power supplies for the Digital and Analog sections to perform their best we moved away from the idea of making the MPS-2 universal.  The MPS-2 can accept a custom version of the Bryston 10B crossover the BP-1.5 Moving Coil Phono stage (http://bryston.com/bp15_m.html) and of course the BP26 preamp.

James  thanks for touching the point on the BP-1.5 Moving Coil Phono stage. I was going to get there with my next question……………
Once again where would the best position be for the BP-1.5 Moving Coil Phono stage

Since it is much smaller then all the other units cosmetics wise I guess on Top of……
Let me know your thoughts.

James that beening said MPS-2
On Top of The BP26 (2dB)
beside The BP26 (2dB)

James what is the DB level if installed below BP26 . Example like the picture

Thank you

Robert

Hi Robert,

I can not remember specifically so I will have to ask engineering.  I just remember them telling me there was a slight advantage if the power supply was on top vs on the bottom.  The noise floors are very low anyway and I doubt whether any of this would be audible.

James,

How exactly does this result in 2dB lower noise, what is engineering explanation for it?

Hi Sasha,

They tell me the influence of the very large power supply in the MPS-2 seems to radiate the magnetic field upwards through the top at greater intensity than downward.  I assume some of it has to do with the materials used in the chassis and the magetic field and positioning of the transformer in the MPS-2.

I have my 1.5 phono on top of the BP-26, then the MPS-2 power supply on the next shelf up on doubled up rubber bottle stoppers (size 7 on top of 10) feet. So the power supply is about 4" above the 1.5 chassis top. With a VPI brick above where the RCAs enter the 1.5.
Then my DAC, which has a look very similar the the Bryston front panel, on more rubber bottle stoppers above the MPS-2 power supply
A VAC Standard tube preamp is under the BP-26, with extra distance via old ceramic feet from a dead Sony 89ES player. The VAC is used to 'buffer' the (old) DAC output to the Bryston BP-26 (The VAC Standard also has a separate power supply which is on the floor).
Then on the shelf below that is an Audio Research SP-15 I use sometimes as a second (tubed) phono section. (this Audio Research preamp also has a separate power supply a ways off.)
So yes I have three Preamps with separate power supplies in my racks. (I bought the ARC and the VAC used, And the ((retail $7,000 new)) ARC was my pre before I bought the Bryston.)
Whoo Hoo! Bryston Rocks!
