Dave,

You're a good guy, but why do you keep doing this? Bryston may be the perfect gear to your and my ears and wallets, but that doesn't mean it's that to everyone. Laundrew's a Bryston guy, as is pretty much everyone else here. No need to criticize him or anyone else here because they like something in addition to their Bryston gear and wanted to share it with the rest of us. Variety is the spice of life, and keeps things from getting monotonus and boring.

I really like the vintage Marantz stuff I've heard. I also really like McIntosh, Naim, and Rega, just to name a few. And I don't think that Bryston sounds absolutely better than most of those. I prefer most Bryston stuff to most of that stuff mentioned, but not everything Bryston ever made is better than anything any of those companies ever made. Sorry if you feel offended by me saying that here.

Just because we dig Bryston and it's our main stuff doesn't mean it's the only stuff, nor does it mean it's the only stuff anyone can discuss. If it was the only stuff we were allowed to discuss, I'm pretty sure James would delete everything else. There is a ton of great gear out there at a ton of price points.

Again, I think you're a good guy. Please don't take this as an attack or starting a fight with you. There's no way to see my tone of voice on a forum, but if you could, it would be non-confrontational.

James, thanks for the answer. One more quick question though:

What worked better for your room(s), one large subwoofer or two (smaller).

I'm trying to decide what to do about my bass in my family room. I want to supplement it. I can achieve more bass by re-positioning the speakers, but then it becomes "boomy" and poorly defined. So I was thinking subs. Of course, if I had the money I would have gone for larger speakers (something like Laundrew's setup), but that's out of my league.

Or I could move the whole thing in a smaller room.

Hi nap,

i have always found 2 smaller subs work better than 1 big assuming quality stereo is your primary listening goal.

Few dispute your opinion that Bryston is some of the best gear out there as evidenced by the many thousands of dollars we each have invested in Bryston. So you must be referring to another opinion and the fact that it is unpopular by Bryston owners should be a tip off.

I doubt seriously that James is insulted nor most Bryston owners. I have two complete Bryston systems and I don't feel the least bit insulted. I would also refer you to James's stated philosophy on the Board. I will admit that given all the time, energy and patience James puts into this site being told that his site is "a damm mess" would be a little insulting. The only things guaranteed to sink the board is intolerance and incivility.

With regards to my Marantz photo, of which you don't seem to like, in my defense a little background there. I had a very close friend of some 25 years that has, as part of a running joke over the years, badgered me about selling it to him knowing full well I wouldn't. He died last year, that, Christmas, nostalgia (a pitfall of advancing years) and pride probably was the reason I posted the photo and write-up. At any rate not sure why I did, although in retrospect I realize it was a mistake and certainly won't let it happen again.

I entered the Audio hobby in 1972 with a Marantz 2270 for which I paid 600 hard earned dollars. I found your photo to be beautiful and your story touching. Thanks for sharing. It was not a mistake.

I can appreciate other brands sonic qualities, pretty blue light factor, and enjoy others opinions of such equipment.

I am a Big fan of Bryston and this forum, even if I have a (Canadian) tube front end in my otherwise Bryston system.

I have no issue with the constructive discussion and compliments of other equipment on this forum... however..

I find myself somewhat in Dave's defense (his initial reaction to Volk's in the 'Ordered a CS15' thread) here because I too thought Volks forward display of 'Bryston out, Mac in' was in poor taste. Maybe Volks was just excited about his new gear and wanted to share with friends on this board, but I felt his, inappropriate, gushing as well. That and the fact that after having started a thread about a new CS15 (not even knowing what a Bryston BIT is) got sidetracked to Mac stuff.

Display your other equipment here and accept compliments and criticism gentlemanly, but go and do your gushing somewhere else. You don't bring a '67 Mustang to Super Chevy Sunday and let everyone there know Camaros are just not your thing.

Mac is great equipment, who could contest that. The lights are cool. Aesthetically though, Volks system has lost all synergy IMO. Something looks out of place, maybe 2 different racks? Sound and listening pleasure being the priority, I'm sure it's awesome and I wish Volks many years of audio bliss.

Your absolutely right Dave, your entitled to an opinion as well as a right to express that opinion. But please temper that with the realization that just because you have an opinion doesn't mean the world is waiting to hear it.
