Now I'm 30 inches from rear wall and 17 from sides. Gonna stay here for a while and get used to it. Still waiting for ATS panels and traps to arrive. Most of the sound still seems to be trapped between speakers.

BTW with speakers further in the room, do I still need to lower or move my rack.

The "emptier" you can keep the soundstage, the better.

I split my rack into two pieces, much lower now. Added some more ATS panels to front wall. Funny, some records have massive sound stage and some have music coming straight out of both speakers and nothing in the middle. Normal?

Hi Neyloj,

The speakers are too close to the wall. Try toeing them in or move them slightly closer to each other. IMHO the speakers are too large for the room. I hope all turns out ok.

Check the imaging, not soundstage. If you are not getting a sharp clear image in the center, then something is off. No doubt soundstage would be huge as they are large speakers.

Much of that is recording dependent. Next thing you know, you'll be listening to classical music. Want a recommendation? Then we can talk about imaging and soundstage and the balance therein.

Can you tell which albums are the worst offenders? maybe someone has the album and can confirm that is poorly recorded and have terrible soundstaging. Or did I miss you telling us which album?

Most of my records now have a wonderful sharp sound in the middle of the speakers, theres just a couple albums that don't. As jim points out, much of that has to do with the recording.

The speakers are close to side walls because thats where they sound best. They're 23" from back wall. I tried the Cardas method but that puts them 53" into my room without much result. These speakers are designed not to be toe in at all. I only have about 40 hours on them too, Albert says they really come to life after 200 hours. Spikes are going on soon.

Help me out here. My music has the best image, hologragh and huge sound stage at 25" from rear wall and just 9" from side walls. I have tried dozens of movements an inch at a time, Cardas method too. Is it possble that this is the best position for my VR33's. Everyone says I'm too close to walls here. They're 8' apart and I sit 9' away. Tchaikovskys Capriccio Italien blew me away last night. Music was all over the front of the room.

Sounds like you've got it dialed in. Don't worry too much about copying what everyone else is doing. You experimented, you listened, and now you should trust yourself.

I read about Ney's new speaks at the VS site. They have a rear firing bass driver and subsequently would benefit from near wall placement. Sounds like he's got em dialed in accordance with what I read at the site. These are a direct sale item from VS. I admire VS for doing this and eliminating dealer markup but still maintaining dealer relationships with their higher end and more famous models. VS claims to have only downgraded the exterior of the speaks. Bully good for them and middle market music lovers.

You're doing the right thing. All of the info before is just that, info so you could make a better decision for yourself. You seem to really like the up front imaging, so go for it. You are aware it's your home and your speakers, you know you can just change their location if you have a hankerin' for a different sound later on, right? I don't follow any exact method either, I use a bit of what works from everywhere. I used to love the imaging I got from the Audio Physics method, then developed a taste for the more near field Cardas, your tastes may also change. And your speakers will tell you what they need. Many years ago I owned Allison III's which required corner placement, so each speaker designer has a preference. And also note the first post and answers were with a different speaker. So don't get hung up on any one post or specific placement. Again, enjoy!

Hi

Imaging is dependent at how loud you play your music too. Every speaker/room combo has a different threshold of volume that will sustain imaging and it usually isnt very loud unless room treated.

I now hear sound all around the front of my room with alot of depth. Bass sounds like its 10' beyond my back wall. Everything sounds fantastic but I wonder, should I be hearing sound down my side walls too. How far out do you guys hear different sounds?
