Inception-Wow!!
« on: 19 Jul 2010, 02:48 pm »
Went to see this movie yesterday-all I can say is wow! All I can say is I've never seen a movie cram so much plot and plot twists in one movie. The only movie I could compare it to was Memento but didn't realize till reading later it was the same director-Chris Nolan so that makes sense. The film combines a stagering special effect, originality of story, espionage played out in the subcontious, riveting action, suspense, and emotional drama. It is very fatigueing but compelling at the same time.Anyone else see it?

I saw it a few days ago. I really liked it. Christopher Nolan really knows how to make a damn fine movie. I'll probably go see it again with some other people. I agree with everything you said, and add in that the soundtrack was fantastic as well.

Thanks guys for the reviews of Inception.  I wanted to go see it this weekend but the wife was not interested so I will try to catch it while I am on the road this week.

I'm planning on heading to IMAX this thursday to see this movie. I've been waiting all summer for this release. I only wish this flick was in IMAX 3D!  8)

I am planning on seeing it Wednesday.  It looks like it could be the last really good movie until December.

I went and saw Inception today in IMAX and while I found it totally entertaining, I also found it a bit hard to follow. Even tho things tend to clear themselves up as the movies moves along, it's definitely a thinking man's movie and one that I'll be looking forward to watching again. Both the soundtrack and special effects were 1st rate and the storyline was the best I've seen all year. This flick was an easy 4 out of 5 star movie and another fine addition to DiCaprio's portfolio. In fact I now want to watch Shutter Island which I let slip by me.

Shutter island was ok...not great.  I found it convoluted, but not really reaching an engrossing climax.  It was too all over the place for a real emotional investment...for me anyway.

I have to disagree.
Great cinematography IMHO.
Complex enough with twisted plot that keeps you on your toes.

If you liked the "Memento", you will enjoy both....., "Shatter Island" and "Inception".

SPOILER ALERT
The ending will keep you guessing and create a maze of its own.

I liked memento better.  Shutters cinematography was beyond reproach.  There was a sense of a puzzle forming, but it wasn't an edge-of-the-seat thriller for me.   You do have to pay attention, it demands that.

Yes, Memento was a better film and you certainly need to focus to follow the plot and pay attention to the smallest details.

Very strong performences.
Amazing, visionary world.
Minority Report/Matrix with the Memento's twist.

It's those type of attention inducing movies that I always need to see twice as I'm always missing something.  :duh:  Then again those are the types of movies I love the best as it is in many leftovers, it's that much better the 2nd time around.  :eyebrows:

I love a good movie.  I don't care what the rating is "G" to "NC-17".  I dig the quality.  I plan to see inception and despicable me over the next 2 days.
I have to admit, the next movie I am really waiting for is TRON:  Legacy.  Not just because of the update/geek factor, but the quality directors involved, some from Pixar like Brad Bird.

Funny, Shutter Island is the movie that convinced me how good an actor DiCaprio is.  I thought he was fantastic in this movie and the movie itself was outstanding.  To each his own!

Best,
Ed

Inception is excellent.
My brother's an aspiring filmmaker and has been getting rather boostful of his emerging talent.
After watching Inception he was put back in his place.

I saw Inception a few days ago, and while I am a big Chris Nolan fan and appreciated the filmmaking, I will say that I would only give this one a "B".  Some really great/creative ideas, with multiple story levels being told simultaneously...am really happy that Hollywood gave this a green light...but it never really came together for me.  Can't quite put my finger on why, but I suspect that DiCaprio (whom I like a lot as an actor) and Ellen Page weren't doing it for me in these roles.  Maybe my expectations were too high... :(

I had mixed feelings about this movie. The music is fantastic -- I loved how parts of the score subtly echo scores of other familiar movies, the way that dreams sometimes work. The plot is original, but also fairly dry and boring. Apart from the scene with Paris, all of the "dreams" didn't seem like dreams at all, except for occasional disturbances of the laws of physics. (Perhaps all Nolan dreams about is chases and gunplay?) It could have been a lot more creative. By the third level (the snow landscape), the chases and gunplay were fairly old and tedious. Overall, I'd say it was decent but not stellar.
