In the first link below (about 3 shots down) is a close-up of the electronics driving the speakers and in the second one below about half way down is a picture of the speakers and room

James if you're inclined to be in the area next year, I'm sure they would not mind Bryston's participation.  This was the 1st year of the show and it went pretty well and I'd think it is going to be much larger next year.  This is a good geographic area for high end audio.

I just saw the (cheapo) $60k model at the (first) Capital Audiofest (capitalaudiofest.com - probably even have phots) in Rockville, MD.  It was driven by MBL electronics and high end reel to reel as the source.  Was not particularly impressed.  It was a big room too.

Hi Phil,

How would you describe the sound?

Thanks for the reply Phil and James :thumb:

Phil,

Great links - looks like a lot of happy people. Do you know what model this speaker is and its price? It looks awesome  :thumb:

Hi Phil,

Imaging was excellent but at the same time the music seemed recessed as far as sharpness of transients and depth (as in the body of things such as vocals) go.  Just was not my cup of tea (and I've seen posts from others here who attended it as well with similar observations) and not at $60k.  I was at the NY Home Entertainment show 7-8 yrs. back and heard the $85k Dynaudios (I think the model is the Evidence) and I liked them better.  They were in a big room too in NY.  When my friend worked at the high end shop for a 5-6 yr. period many moons back I did most of his deliveries/installs with him and we set-up Levinson 33Hs along with the reference preamp for a guy who had bought the same Dynaudios used.  They sounded awful in his room.  It was about 9x16 with metal Boltz record racks all over.  We unhooked a pair of $12k retro looking B&Ws that sounded worlds better.

Those are the top of the line Salks (they have a circle here too).  Those were the ones with a 10 inch woofer.  He makes a 12 as well.  Jim Salk was very gracious and came all the way from Detroit.  The room was not the best but they sounded good.  A guy who came to the show as a result of me like his less expensive model (and he may get those).  I think they start at around $10k/pair and go to something like $13k with the 12 inch woofer.  I believe they don't sell through a dealer network either so they would be lots more going through that route.  There are links to the manufacturers at the website.

Here's the link to the website for those -  http://www.salksound.com/soundscape%20series.htm

They were even more beautiful in person.  They were actually Jim Salk's personal speakers and made to match his decor.  I forgot what he told me they weighed (I think around 150 lbs. - not sure  - my old Thiel 7.2s were 170 and very heavy).  I like experiencing audio equipment in that type of venue as there is lots to look at.  It was Fri., Sat. and Sun. and I just went from the middle of Sat. afternoon to around 7:00.  Even Polk Audio (which is just up the road in Baltimore) had a nice demo with Ayre electronics belonging to the person who coordinated the show for them.  While I was there they gave me a beer and a Hitmaster tee shirt.  I asked what a Hitmaster was and they brought out this compact 80W digitally powered stage monitor that you can daisy chain (RCAs in and outs) and it is usually $99.95 and it is on sale at their website until June 26 for $79 (free shipping at least to the US) and I bought one and may get another.  I have this cheapo electric guitar with a battery powered amp I can't play and I take it out once a year to torture myself (I usually spare others as I'm considerate ) and they put it a way for a year realizing I'm much better listening to music.  You can also hook an iPod (or Zune) up to it.  They told me that their biggest customers are taverns which typically daisy chain them together.  I just couldn't resist a neat little toy.  If I like it when I get it I may get another just for the heck of it.

In case anyone was wondering, "doctorno" is most likely "topround," based on the IP addresses.

Oh, I see. Thank you for that. People never cease to amaze me as to how low they'll go.

Sounds like a perfect description for the way Mcintosh Gear sounds.

Depends on how you like your gear sounding........to me Mcintosh and Bryston are both built like TANKS and of course they are  both made in North America and both have a long history as companies, but their sound could not be further from one another........Bryston=Open,Transparent,Linear,Detailed and very lively Sound............Mcintosh=Dark,Velvety,Soft,Tube Like(even their Solid State amps).............I lean much towards the Bryston  sound  :hyper:
