Seeing as how it was brought up, this question has been on my mind for a long time...

Which is the official name - Netherlands or Holland?
Why two names? Is one a region in the entire nation or something along those lines?

To take it a step further, why are the people referred to as Dutch? I'm assuming Dutch is a/the language.

Is Flemmish another language spoken?

And finally, why does this nation confuse me so much? Am I the only idiot who can't figure this stuff out?

I've pretty much always referred to it as Holland.

I think Netherlands are the small regions/states that form the country called Holland and Dutch are the people living there.

Holland is a province of the Netherlands.

My "kiss of death" - I'm picking Uruguay and Spain to appear in the finals.

Actually, I don't think either will make it, but I'll be so much more excited if I correctly pick some underdogs than if I correctly pick the highly-favored teams.

That's not what I keep hearing/reading.
Actually, Spain and Uruguay/Holland are the top picks for the finals.
Germany is more of an underdog then any other quarterfinals team.

How can Germany be an underdog after demolishing Argentina so easily? And how can Spain be so strongly favored after their effort against Paraguay?

I actually think the Uruguay v Netherlands game will be a closely fought one. Even in beating Brazil, I didn't think the Dutch looked all that dangerous. They shut the opposition down, and capitalize on errors. At least the Uruguayans have ways of manufacturing their own goals. We'll see how devastating the loss of Suarez will be.

It pays Uruguay's coach and player to be boasting about their win against Ghana and today they have been had...the famous "Garra chárrua" (Charrua claw) never appeared and how the broadcaster in Univision said, "they attempted to put out the fire with gasoline!" Next, German vs Spain and oh, boy, that will be a crazy, crazy match.

The Dutch looked a little sloppy with their passing, better tighten that up if they wanna' win the gold cup.

Agree
lock of confidence and effort to take the game to the Uruguay almost made me thing twice about backing them up in this game/cup. Second half was a lot better thanks to the 2nd ( offside IMO) goal which gave the team much needed shot of adrenalin.
Uruguay played hard and gave their best.... unfortunately it wasn't enough.

Now we will have to wait for the showdown between Villa and Klose
