That's a broad generalization.  The bulk of their material is alternative to almost blues.  Their website has samples for every song they've done, released or otherwise.  Try a sample (especially Whites Off Earth Now).

My friends'  Ayre CD player smoked the Bryston Dac, it wasn't even close. If one of you just recently bought a used Bryston Dac it may be the one that got smoked and was replaced by a Ayre cd player.

Loving a brand is one thing, but using your ears is another, stop the flow of cool aid!

You guys simply must try a Ayre cd player, trust me you will like it. Much more than your Bryston Dacs. Way more refined and musical.  Go out on a limb..it is dangerous ..but fun :thumb:

BTW: Most musicians I know have very shitty stereos, they really don't need hi end audio..it is in their heads, they are listening for chord progressions, phrasings, orchestrations and arrangements. They really don't give a hoot for the things we care about in hi end.
So for me, a musician endorsing a product does not mean much, but then  I am fortunate to know a lot of musicians.

I pretty much tend to disregard someone who, for example, will knock a product like the Bryston BDA-1 DAC and promote another brand, all in a thread that had nothing to do with the product.  (The thread was about the celebrity endorsement of the Bryston BCD-1 CD player)
 
I also tend to disregard comments that include "smoked it", "blew it away", "ate it for lunch", and "left it in the dust".

I tried all the Ayre players the dealer had on the floor ($3k CD and $6k univseral 2-channel player) when I first bought my BCD-1 CD (I now have the BDA-1 DAC).  To each their own.  The Ayre simply cut out some of the music (not to mention it costs more) and is simply to my ears not accurate and I listened to various things including acoustic stuff I've heard live.  You sound like my dealer.  He would say this player is $700 better.  By the way he would hide the players from my view and stick a CD in each playing the same track number.  It was less than 10 seconds in each case to figure out which was playing.

I am not sure how you can qualify that statement. These are two different types of components. I can easily make my bda sound like crap. Just by hooking up a lousy transport, that can kill the dac. So really that statement
is something napalm might say.....lol.  Thats a pozer post. hehe

Hi Folks – I think there are a number of misconceptions out there about musician’s audio systems. It’s true that they may listen for different things like timing and such when performing or recording, but most have home systems as well and depending on their specific interest in audio reproduction their systems are as varied as the rest of the world.  I have heard many systems in artists’ homes, some good some great and some awful – same goes for many audiophiles.

The one area were musicians can sometimes differ is they may choose their audio system based on their particular bias or perspective (don’t we all!),  So if your a drummer or saxophone player or violin player sitting within the group and hearing from that perspective their audio system may reflect that arrangement.  Whereas the rest of use get to sit in a listening position whether it be a concert hall or a recording studio or a nightclub or a rock concert and tend to choose audio products that portray a similar perspective to the venue we prefer.

Also there are many musicians out there that are extremely anal about there finished material and the quality it represents in the market – Neil Young is one that comes to mind immediately.

One last point – I think you have to give some credit to people that spend their lives in the company of live instruments. I learned about 3D holographic imaging and soundstage from a recording engineer way back in the 60’s when I thought audio have two levels of quality – loud and louder.

So I think it is a serious mistake to just lump everyone together and assume every person who happens to be involved in the music business have inadequate audio systems.

BTW...check out what Stereophile had to say comparing the Ayre and Bryston CD players and others (find the review yourself)

So can anyone recommend me 2-3 Cowboy's CDs that are really well recorded? I can't make it out of the mp3 samples and I wouldn't want to have something new to post in the "Atrocious" thread....

These Bryston guys do not venture out.  I've told them many times about identical threads (like "good hirez downloads") I've run over on the HiRez forum, but to no avail.  They have their own 'what are you listening to now" called 'what are you currently listening to".  :scratch:     Oh well.   :)
