Hi All - got this today - quite the endorsement I would say :thumb:

From: Peter J. Moore
To: James Tanner
Subject: Bryston BCD-1 Celebrity Sale
Sent: May 28, 2010 2:49 PM

"Hi James

Mike Timmins, the Leader of the Cowboy Junkies, was over and heard the BCD-1 CD Player on my system and was VERY IMPRESSED.

Is there any way you can offer him a "Celebrity Sale" on a unit?

I would really appreciate it.

Yours Truly
Peter J. Moore
President
The E Room Mastering Studios"

Nice - They certainly understand good sound.  Your post made me pull out their Trinity Sessions CD and am listening now.  Mike's sister Margot has a beautiful voice and the recording on that CD was awesome.

I'm missing the connection to Bryston on this one.

I hardly think Micheal Timmins needs a discount.

Their Whites Off Earth Now SACD from MFSL is outstanding and I use it consistently reviewing products.

The dynamic range on this album sure put the 9Bsst2 to work!

Alicia has a rack of Brystons in her personal studio. Bought them last year I think.

"Celebrity Sale" - please

Perhaps this "celebrity" could take the time to write and request this himself - it's the least he could do if he was very impressed.

Be well...

Gee's you guys are a tough bunch.
The PR and word of mouth on this kind of purchase is excellent for a company like Bryston :D

I'd say good, not excellent. Excellent would be having Steve Hoffman rave about using [insert name of gear here]. Like some years ago, when he did w/ Wavac amps. Mr. Timmins is known for being a musician, so, him talking about a piece of kit that muso's exclusively use: instrument, etc. would be more appropriate.

(and)

when I was in The Biz, I used to see a lot of musicians trying to pick up free-bees. Sorry, I don't cut a lot of slack for multi-millionaires that can afford anything they want, while I had to work as ye ol' typical wage-slave.

The last thing I would do, would be to run out and purchase any item recommended by a compensated celebrity - especially audio equipment. They must truly believe that we are little more than mindless plebeians whom cannot make up our own minds and must be told what to buy. What if a purchased celebrity spews forth to the mob…

“I only listen to my music on Krell 600e mono-blocks - the CAST is simply awesome.”

Do I immediately kick my 28s to the curb and race out and purchase the 600e mono-blocks? Please

I digress…

This ranks right up there with stereo reviews. I read the recent Tone review and I never knew that the MPS-2 was optional equipment for the BP 26, for some unexplained reason my BP 26 requires the MPS-2 for proper operation. No creditability here, eh? Or even proofreading for that matter - the editor must have been off that day.

Did they even review the Bryston site...

"All BP-26 series preamplifiers are housed in steel cabinets for shielding to reduce electromagnetic interference effects. Buffered inputs provide for lower distortion and improved linearity from source components. A ground plane has been incorporated in this new design to further reduce crosstalk and noise throughout the internal circuitry. The power supply (MPS-2) is mounted externally to eliminate power-supply noise interference."

Back on topic...

I wonder if anyone else would put any faith into what a paid celebrity recommended.

Be well….

First, celebrities tend to endorse all kind of things.

Second, this is the first time I hear about these cowboys.

Third, the best endorsement I've ever seen was by an audio dealer that didn't sell Bryston but used one to demonstrate his most expensive speakers.

Fourth, I would take something like the endorsement of a recording studio/engineer that has a long history of exceptional recordings of quality music.

Fifth, I've heard that Paris Hilton gets paid to spend time in night clubs to "endorse" them.

etc.
