With AKFest coming up (this coming week-end as I write this), we wanted to showcase our new SoundScapes and specifically the 10" version.
We had found some rather stunning Mexican cocobolo and decided to use that with an automotive clear coat rubbed out to high gloss. High gloss is always tricky to photograph since it reflects EVERYTHING. So these photos are not the best, but they will give you some idea of how the SoundScapes came out.
Here are the very first "production" (more on that in a moment) SoundScape 10's...

And a close-up...

If you notice, there is a damping layer between the top section and the woofer section. We are currently in the process of building a form to mold the top sections out of an advanced polymer. In the process of designing the part to generate the mold, we decided to extend the top section down by one inch around the perimeter and mount the damping material in the resulting pocket.
The upper sections for this particular pair were done with a trans-lamination process and we didn't make that change for these since we had all the CNC templates already designed from earlier prototypes.
So I did a little photoshop work to show how the top section would look in the molded form. Note that the damping layer will not be as prominent with the molded top sections.

This "demo" pair will be on display at AKFest this coming Saturday and Sunday. Happy listening to those who can make it!
