Bryston speaker cables report

Just got them  :hyper:

I have my 4B SST2 placed on a lateral wall and I need long cable runs to the speakers (Paradigm Studio 100 V5) (yes, I know, but if you can convince my wife that the equipment rack would fit nicely just in front of the fireplace, I would reconsider the placement )

Previous cables were 14 gauge "philips" el-cheapo speaker cable, 18' long. Now I just replaced them with the Bryston supplied Van Damme 9.5 gauge (is the gauge correct?), 20' long (just to make sure I have some slack for future rearrangements) and Bryston fitted tightening banana plugs.

Due to the long run and large difference in gauge I was expecting to hear differences in the lower bass where the speakers hit 2 ohms impedance. However the first impression is that it's the upper bass and midrange that came alive - in a very pleasant way.

A couple of days ago I was mentioning how a pair of Energy RC10 had a creamy smooth nice midrange when directly compared to the Paradigms. Now I got that sound with the Paras too.

More music listening needed  :eyebrows:

The paradigm studio 100s  are nice speaks  :thumb:. They go loud and can also be very nimble and musical also. I like them lots.

Cool, Napalm. I would like to try the Bryston cables as well.

Don't try to sneak them in, it won't work. They're thick, each conductor is pencil size. War dept has noticed.

BTW lower bass is cleaner too. It's just that at first my attention was captured by upper bass and mids.

Thanks, I love them too - especially when powered by the 4B SST2 :hyper:

Depends on musical material. Yours will smoke mine at any sparse arrangement of wind instruments (think saxophone, trumpet, clarinet).

I'm pretty sure. In my experience they only come out natural with paper cone midrange drivers. The plastics add some artificial "weight" or "slowness" to the sound. Metal adds too much bite (borderline to edginess).

But I have dynamic, well balanced, convincing piano sound.

I just today finished changing out my 16 ga run of the mill zip cord for some Furutech U-4.1T Bi-wire + Furutech Banana's.  The Furutech produced a much cleaner sound with tighter and more extended bass while getting the B&W tweeters under control.  It's just a hair warmer, not much but just enough.  It's nice cable but h--- to strip!

Hey Napalm,

You should try to sneak my SC's past the war department.  The WireWorld Silver Eclipse 6's are flat and 44mm (1.75") wide.  As their name suggests they are silver and don't match my carpet which is the same color as yours.  Fortunately I have desensitized my war department by bringing home a pair of Infinity 9 Kappas 20 years ago.  They are 5' tall and 23" wide and kind of take your attention away from what connects them to the amps. :eyebrows:

Just curious what banana's you used that would handle 9 ga. wire, WBT?

These ones:

Bryston will install them if you want to (but they'll ask you about it as apparently some clients prefer to install them themselves). They look way better in person  than in the photo.

The cable is here:

http://www.bryston.com/speaker.html

and you can order it online. You have links in the left pane to order your preferred connectors with it. And the bananas in the cable photo are looking like the real thing.

Very easy process. You make the order online then call Bryston's 800 number to give them the Visa number to charge. Or you can pay by cheque/money order.

No Brystons needed either  :jester:

What is the black round thing in the floor? One of these http://www.richelieu.com/produit/index.php?lang=Fr&id=1009678 ?

Thanks,
Nap.
