Looks like Verizon will be releasing iPhone in January
One  slowdown, besides the Apple/AT&T contract is that AT&T uses a sim card, verizon does not.  The Iphone for verizon (90 million potential buyers) is a different technology that Apple will have to retool for (has tooled for?).  At this point, I am ready to dump verizon, no matter if droid or iphone is available.  Over the past 4 years--I have had some suspect bills and it's a back and fourth thing every month.
I would also wait and see about the reliability of the incredible and the droid X.  HTC has had a spotty QC track record, pretty shaky in the smartphone community.  Then again, so has crackberry.

Interesting.  I've never had a suspect bill.  As to HTC's track record, I don't know about that.  I only know one person who has a Droid, and he loves it.  I also know several people who have iPhones, and they also love theirs.  Personally, I'd like to get a real keyboard, but we'll see what happens, especially since the Droids and their variants can now do voice to text.

I love my Droid (or Roid as my wife calls it b/c I never leave it alone).  I really like the keyboard...every time I use the touch screen I always make typos and it just takes longer to correct them.   :duh:

OK Gary we get your drift. It seems like to me that you're on the wrong forum.

Wouldn't you rather find like minded worshipers or do you just enjoy having a chip on your shoulder.

Lighten up...This isn't cancer research.

We have had Verizon FIOS for years now and every time I get a bill I pray there is nothing I have to call them for. Their billing dept is their HUGE weak link.

Fortunately we use ATT for our wireless, and there are no problems there. But I have a Blackberry, not an Iphone or Driod. I am looking at the new 4G phone, but I think I will probably be sticking with the BB, since it caters more to how I use my phone - e-mails and contact info and not web browsing or games.

Enjoy,
Bob

Interesting.  Because all phone companies have what is called DIlog. (Device issue log).  It is a compendium of all issues affecting all products available on their net.  You would be shocked at the list of HTC and blackberry issues.  I also know *one*  guy with a droid.  he loves it, but it's motorola, not HTC.  *One*  isn't a very large sample size, nor does it plot the history of the company's products  that made it like Dilog (and consumer reports)  does.
Interesting, indeed.

Just placed an order for iphone 4. With all the talk of reception issues, can anyone recommend a good case? Preferably a hard case, and inexpensive.

Assuming you have coverage, the reception isn't an issue.  The upper left quadrant of the integral antenna can be interfered with if you hold it there.  That is the one weak point of the system.
There is a device that works wonders for all AT&T 3G phones.  If your house is between cell towers, there is a microcell (looks like a modem)  that will give you 5 bars.  AFAIK, verizon doesn't have such a device, so if you are out of range at home, you are out of luck.
And BTW:  the Iphones virtual keyboard is easier to use than my LG qwerty keyboard, which is like a blackberry keyboard.

There is "coverage" in NYC, but reception with AT&T sucks.

At least with my 3g.  I haven't heard the 4 improving things in this regard.

I have heard NYC, LA and San Fran have reception issues.  There is supposed to be $2B in infrastructure improvements in the works.

The NYC infrastructure upgrade is complete.

As to cases, this product from Apple supposedly alleviates the antenna issue. It doesn't seem to affect me, though. Probably the way I hold the phone.

There is a cnn news story right now.  According to the report, it's also a software issue.  This issue causes more bars to be seen than the actual signal strength.  http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/mobile/07/02/apple.iphone.apology/index.html?hpt=T2

Or, you can go even cheaper and use a LiveStrong bracelet in which you've cut holes for the connector and all of the buttons.  Elegant and about $1.  :D

I am so not understanding how changing the signal strength indicator fixes the problem of when someone puts their hand on a certain part of the iphone it lessens the reception of the phone and drops the call.

It fixes nothing about signal strength issues.  It following the same bogus idea of "if you don't see it, it does not exist."

Even though I have had the Iphone for close of 1 week, it has hardly dropped a call.

I say the one issue that is not closely discussed is the higher sensitivity of the touch screen which makes calls prone to become "speakerphone" conferences as you move your face closer, or shift your facial position as you make a call.

It doesn't---as I stated "also"  which indicates an additional issue.

It helps in answering some of the complaints, but not all. I mean, has anyone been able to duplicate the issue by doing the following -

- Verify the signal strength from a non-iphone ATT phone.
- Check the signal strength on the iphone.
- Make a call
- Cover the upper left corner of the iphone, and try to make a call.

No-I guarantee it, but if it makes anyone feel worse, I hear comments from people who hate all things apple and want to complain about something at all times. The squeaky wheel often gets the financial concessions.   I never heard so many real (or caused) issues when blackberry was the rage.  Fact is:  the blackberries were one of the most problematic, least reliable and difficult to use compared to an iphone or droid. BB users loved them, and glossed over the issues.  There is an exodus from BB's happening.  Palm is already on life support. The Iphone IV:  a new hope is a godsend by compare.
