just saying "hello"...
« on: 20 Feb 2010, 04:24 pm »
hello everyone!
brand new member here, i discovered this forum while searching possible solutions for a hardly audible but quite present hum in one channel of my 4b sst2 (still humming happily at this point in time).
i have been lurking for a while, but finally decided to enlist, so here i am.

the juicy details:
i live in the netherlands, an am in the process of moving from one place to another, which is taking about a year now. i have a girlfriend and two kids from the seventh circle of hell.

the noisy details:
power amp: the afore mentioned 4b sst2
pre amp: aaron cineast 22
loudspeakers: tri-nextel, (all in dutch) a diy project with seas nextel units
cd player: marantz sa 7001 ki (the ki pearl is on the short list as a replacement)
tuner: marantz st 6001 (it's just background noise)
dvd player: denon dvd 3910
tv: loewe aventos crt (because i still have to find a plasma or lcd tv that gives a better image)
cabling: all nordost red dawn rev 2

i hope i will be able to contribute something sensible from time to time. if not, i know when silence is golden...

Actually I'm a 5th generation Yank with German, Scotch and Irish ancestry in equal measure (with a tad of Cherokee--native American--mixed in to round me out).  And, if you want to avoid a third world European style socialist state, don't come here.  Our new president is trying desparately to return us that status after 230 years.  Thankfully we have Bryston to help us forget about it for a while so let's have an ebeer and celebrate your joining the Circle  .

hmm... not much dutch in that... maybe your ancestors lived close to the dutch border? :P
i am keeping an eye on the first somewhat black president (not meant in a racist fashion whatsoever, it is just the most visible difference in him and his predecessors) and i must say that there is a minor gap between his talking and his actions.
i certainly think his nobel prize was interesting, to say the least.
i would love to move to canada, i *so* want to get out of this place. i have lived and worked in toronto so i know (and fell in love with) the place, but alas, due to circumstances out of my control (something to do with a plane parked in a skyscraper), i could not stay then. james, if you happen to have a job for me (with some guidance i can do anything) please give me a call...

You will be glad to know that the gentleman who designed the Bryston BDA-1 DAC and the B100 Integrated amp and the BCD-1 CD Player is DUTCH - and proud of it I may add :thumb:

well... the cd was a dutch invention (tidbit: the hole in the center of a cd is the size of an old dutch 10 cents coin, from before the euro). so it makes sense... :D

So, let me get this straight.  It was the Dutch who unleashed 25 years of low resolution audio upon us causing us under false pretense to dispose with our turntables and vinyl discs?
