James,

Do you have an opinion on the end to end performance of a system with a Torus installed based on the earlier model squared amps versus one with the upgraded squared amps?

Would the Torus's affect by marginialized?

That's a Good Question For James.

I struggled with that one myself and I think if you have the newer amps the Torus becomes redudant if your just looking at the power delievery on transients aspect.  If you consider all the other benefits of the Torus in a system then that off-sets that conclusion of course.

James,

You said

"if you have the newer amps the Torus becomes redundant if your just looking at the power delivery on transients aspect"

So the number of newer 7B's that you can plug into a Torus RM20 Bal for example, should have increased by a certain number.

Any idea's on how much this would have increased?

Gee thats a good question - I assume you would have a lot more room as the amplifier is not relying on the Torus for the instantanious current draw.

Hi James

Has Bryston or Torus ever consider parallel filtering for conditioning?. It could be time now with these transformers. Also bringing back the 20 amp version makes sense now for dedicated lines.

Hi James,

I was wondering if you could let me know if my ordered 4B SST Sq (Black, 19” Version with handles) bound for Australia would have the new “2. INPUT CAPACITOR CHANGE and FEEDBACK CAPACITOR CHANGE:”?

Many thanks,
Q

Hello james

So are there upgrades for the 4B now?

None I am aware of other than the new capacitors on the SST2.

So James, at what serial number of the 4B sst2 was the new capacitor change implemented?

(are the serial numbers of the pro amps in the same series as the consumer amps?)

Thanks
-- Ian.

James, you mentioned giving consideration to offering the capacator upgrade for the 4, 6, & 9 amps, any decision yet?

3 and 4's and 6's and 9B's (input stage only on 9B's) for new production.
3's a 4's and 6's for upgrades.

Hi James,

Just wondering if you can discuss the capacitor change (type & size of capacitance) on the 3/4/6/9 amplifiers and how it affects the sound quality?

What would be the cost for the older SST amplifiers?

Hi Luigi,

It only applies to the new SST2 amps and it will not be an inexpensive upgrade as we have to totally dis-assemble the amplifier and then go through the burn-in procedure again.  There is a lot of labour involved.

...okay...enough of the teasing!  What's a 4B sq. upgrade going to set us back....less than a grand.....less than $500?  Ballpark would be fine at this point!

My pair of 7Bsq's came back today with the upgrade....they are warming up.

I noticed the bench test notes another 60WPC prior to clipping.

I struggled with that one myself and I think if you have the newer amps the Torus becomes redudant if your just looking at the power delievery on transients aspect.  If you consider all the other benefits of the Torus in a system then that off-sets that conclusion of course.
