I thought that was a floor standing center channel speaker!

Wayne,
How do you like the Kef Reference speakers  - those look like 205/2's?

Bill, these Kef's are the 205's.  The 205/2's do not have the super high frequency tweeter anymore and I'm not sure what other changes have been introduced.

I absolutely love these speakers, both from design and sound.  You can't go wrong with Kef.

Wayne.

THANK YOU very much,

Is the robot side of things a hobby or job for you?

I really enjoy well engineered products.
The items in your room fascinate me.

Andy.

Hello again Mr. H,

My pleasure. I studied Electrical Engineering Technology not to long ago. Before that, I was an avionics technician for approximately 20 years and worked with avionics laboratories, F-18s, CP-140 Auroras and Bell 412 helicopters. I did not want to get involved in the manufacturing industry side of robotics after graduating and pursued other options - I could see the pending meltdown of the North American automotive industry on the horizon, after all, it was only a matter of time.

So, robotics is one of my newer hobbies - I enjoy coming up a problem and creating a robotic solution (for example - to have a robot paint modern art). It can be an expensive hobby at times - I will have the same amount of funds invested in Phineus as a pair of 7Bs at their older list price upon completion, so it requires some time to complete projects. Hmmm...could a JBL/Bryston home guard robot be next on the horizon? "evil  ensues."

Be well...

I just finished setting up a "temporary stand" for my audio equipment when my wife came into my room. "What do you think?" I inquired. She laughed and called me a redneck :slap: :icon_arrow: :bawl: :!:

I feel so dirty - time for a shower. Then, back to my sketchpad to complete my design for my new stereo stand.

I would move some of that stuff out of the way of the speakers, Laundrew.

Just a suggestion...

I thought that you going to say that you would love to have some of my robots - I was going to tell you to get your own :nono: :D

Seriously, you are right and I couldn't agree with you more vegasdave. I am planning a complete room renovation down the road - there is a wall that is going to come down aa

Actually, the sound "as is" is simply awesome...

Be well...

That is quite a cool rig Laundrew. Love the big machine in the middle, and the bases of the tables, all quite quirky and industrial. think I can just about make out a 'war of the worlds' cd in the corner  :thumb:

Couple of comments: 1. i really hope the table top is not veneer/hardboard etc 2. As Vegasdave pointed out, best to move the little robots out of the way of the speakers

Hello Viajero5000,

Right you are - War of the Worlds, the Ulla dub Ulla The Remix Album, a great sounding CD. I just used 3/4 inch pine for the base. I was thinking on using 1 inch pine or machined brass cups for the shelves on the finished version.

Thanks for the great comments :thumb:

Awesome system Viajero5000! I like the contrast of your aluminium components against the stereo stand - really makes it "pop."

Yes very nice setup Viajero.  Are your speakers passive biamped with the 14B and 4B?

Thanks b5pt9... those are in fact both 14Bs. The one on top is a squared series amp, the one below is a non-squared one with the pro face plate. The pro plate is actually a bit smaller in height so the amp looks a bit smaller than the C series one.

Yes, it's a passive bi-amp, which sounds better in terms of dynamics in a larger room, but in a small room there are several other upgrades which would provide greater improvement.

The ARC LS26 will be replaced by a BP26 shortly.

Vijaero5000,

What a system! Really awesome!
Could you please let us know in few words what is the sound of ARC LS26 associated with Bryston/PMC components.

Thanks,

Predrag

Thanks very much Predrag. Looking at the photos on your profile, your system is stunning as well.

In a few words, the ARC is a mis-match in this system.

In a few more words, I had a bit of a pre-amp shoot-out this weekend, the ARC, a Cary SLP98, an AVI and a BP26. Results *in my system and room* were that the BP26 was the best overall.

The AVI didn't have the transparency of the other three so that fell off first. Surprisingly, the Cary (with upgraded tubes) had  great clarity and texture through the mids. It is really a great value. The ARC had better sound staging, but things sounded a bit 'black n white' through the ARC. The Cary though couldn't control the frequency extremes, especially the lower bass, which is a big problem with the MB2s: they boom annoyingly if not properly matched.

The BP 26, while it didn't have the last bit of liquidity and holography through the mids as the Cary, was clear, slightly spotlit in the upper mids, with very good timbres and micro and macro dynamics; it also had the best control of the bass. Most importantly it sounded the most natural overall of the four (barring the more liquid mids of the Cary).

The ARC has a more laid back presentation compared to the BP26, which is more aggressive. The ARC was slightly less transparent and slightly looser in the bass than the 26, and timbres and micro dynamics were also just a notch lower. This was a surprise given the price (and press) that the ARC commands.

So the pre-amp of choice for this system is the BP26.

Many thanks BrystonFan... it's funny you asked that question as I just purchased 3 pairs of Bryston XLR cables from another Bryston fan day before yesterday! They should be with me next week...
