A big, nasty iron fist all wrapped up in a velvet glove...

James,

What is "Hi pot" certified?

Thanks.

We test to make sure everything electrical is insulated from the chassis, so people won't get shocks when touching our equipment, causing injury and in serious cases, death.

With the hi-pot test we run the probes between the hot and ground of the iec connector, and then the neutral and ground of the iec.  We jack the tester up to 1300 vac for a period of 1 second.  This test, in theory, shows that if that much current can't break the insulation, then nothing will.

James it's Voltage not Current breakdown for a hi-pot test.
The current only flows after the breakdown occurs.

I have just got to finish my stereo stand after my Esoteric X-05 arrives. Then comes the room renovations and a few more robots aa

See how the aluminium finish of the Bryston equipment stands out over the the black finish of the Marantz CD player

Be well...

PLEASE - Talk me through all the "extra" items in the room.......

What they are?
Working?

The Dalek looking item in the center looks very well engineered.

I always wanted a "sonic screwdriver"

I thought that was a floor standing center channel speaker!

Wayne,
How do you like the Kef Reference speakers  - those look like 205/2's?

Hello Mr. H

Doctor Who - awesome, John Pertwee is my favourite Doctor.

Alright, starting at the left you can just make out the corner of Phineus at the green chair, he is my robot painter that I am designing. The Dalek use to be my Bridgeport milling machine that I am converting to a Steampunk stereo stand - the ways finally wore out and it is more cost effective to purchase another used machine at auction than to repair an old one. The lines of this machine are perfect for the stereo stand. The column you see in front of Phineus is for supporting the 28Bs.

At the far right, you see an old overhead projector on top of the filling cabinet - I really like the aesthetics of it and it may wind up in a future project. The equipment back you see on my desk is a 1940s Sky Champion Hallicrafters shortwave receiver - tubes of course and it still works flawlessly.

On top of the receiver is a really cool robot hand assembly and I use it for decoration. The robot at the end of the desk is an IBM Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm (SCARA). They both are working but as the controllers were scraped, I have to design a controller for them. (the other one is beside the filing cabinet). Hope you enjoyed the little tour :D

Be well?

THANK YOU very much,

Is the robot side of things a hobby or job for you?

I really enjoy well engineered products.
The items in your room fascinate me.

Andy.
