raja, that is one badass cat. I'm adopting a big orange tabby this Sat. He's not as handsome as yours, but he seems like a sweet boy. He's been at the shelter for over 2 years and I just felt sorry for him. Yeah, I'm turning into the crazy old man w/ a house full of cats. This will make 3.

Nice pics guys. I like the close up ones, especially the one of Bubbles. I love that animated avatar too!

Hey!

That's very nice of you drphoto to adopt that cat. 2 years in the shelter is a long time for us human and must be a lot longer in cat's years. Hope everything work out for you on this. :D

BTW... Bubble was rescued of the street of Brooklyn by my brother. :D

Take care,

Here's my kids,

This is Schrodinger (aka Buddy) I don't know why he looks so pensive, as he's normally a very happy boy. Maybe he's pondering his indeterminate existence. (google "Schrodinger' Cat, for the nerdy joke, if you're not into quantum physics!)

And Shamu, the queen of the castle.

I don't have a pic of the new arrival, Monty, as he's hiding, of course. Be a few day before I see him out, based on the other ones' behavior when they first came here.

We picked up new the family members, otherwise known as micro terrorists, on Saturday. Tough to get them to sit long enough for a decent photo but this gives the idea.

This is a bit off thread, as it doesn't contain a picture. Yeah, I know we all like to brag about how we have such a smart pet, but I saw Schrodinger (Buddy) do something the other day I thought was pretty impressive. He wanted to go into the kitchen and the door was shut, but not latched. He tried to pull it open from the bottom but, as the door is sort of heavy, he couldn't do it. There's a table right next to said door, so promptly jumps up on it and pulled on the door knob! I thought this was really cool.

Hey!

  Well, here something for Xmas...

Bubble the cat and Jinny the dog..... Santa's 'lil helpers  Kindna like a postcard that I sent out to my brother in CA. Somehow Bubble wouldn't sit up with the hat on  :? Did try to have them sit still together but that didn't work out.

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Gotta love animals dressed up in costumes - it can be so pathetic it is hilarious. I just haven't done it with mine, probably since they are outdoor dogs. But I am getting the urge...

Buddy,

Schrodinger (who's called Buddy btw) thanks you for your kind words. I think he looks like a little mountain lion. He's not all that little though....17.5 lbs and with a slim build. Really big for a DSH.

Those are really funny pics. I don't see how you got them to put up with that. Plus they have an almost hyper real clarity. You've probably posted before, but what camera are you using?
(getting thread back to photography here)

The lighting is quite nice too. It's not really directional, but its not flat either. Good job.

Hey!

Buddy is 17.5lbs? Wow! My Bubble an orange tabby is 12.5lbs and he will be 11 next month. Yes he is also tall and slim build also. Me and my family think of him as a miniature tiger. :D

As for the photo equipments. I rarely discuss this and I'm sure you notice that about me. Well, it is all about the photographs first right?  When it come camera system... I think I'm a bit of an outsider  :icon_lol: Currently I'm using Sony A700 12meg APS-C DSLR, just got discontinued I think. Before that I used Minolta of which I started out with until Sony took over. It serves me well but one of these day I will go full frame DSLR. But I think I will hold out a bit and see what come after the A900. I'm pretty comfortable with this system and like the quality of most of Minolta/Sony lenses :D

Those two Xmas pics was a quick spur of the moment. I did a quick set up with an old Sunpak 622 flash with small reflector on top of which I hook it up to a Quantum batt pack and ran PC sync cord to the camera. The lens used was a late version of Minolta 50mm f1.7 shot @ f2.5 and ISO 200 was used. :D Post process was done in Photoshop CS2... need to upgrade this too someday  :duh:

Anyway, here is another pic of Bubble...

Since we are on camera talk. This was shot with Sony A700 DLSR and Sony 70-200 f2.8 APO G zooms at 200mm (300mm in APS-C) 1/40sec, f2.8 and ISO 1250. With available light from the window. :D

Take care,
Budd :thumb:

Buddy,

I looked at your album. Some terrific work there.

I did my first shoot in NY a couple of years ago. One of the shots was at a park in Queens.  I thought I'd done all my homework on permits and such. Sure enough, halfway into it the park ranger/cop shows up and ask for the paperwork. To my horror, I'd brought the wrong permit, it was for a park in Manhattan.   I told the guy it was my first job in the city and if he shut me down the client would kill me. He said "Well, I can see you made the effort.....have a nice day." I could have kissed him!

And yes, the camera really doesn't matter as much as the eye behind it. (However, if I don't get into pharmacy school and remain a photog, I've got to get a digital back for the view camera. I was never 35mm guy in the old days)  As for as P-shop...I'm still happily using CS1! I'll occasionally use CS2 when I need it's more advanced warp feature.

Hey!

    Thanks drphoto :D

Nothing much there right now mostly fun stuffs. I do have some B&W prints that I might get them scan and put them up there. But viewing it on computer screen won't be the same as holding them in your hands. :?

Hmmm... and I though I'm the only one that still use CS2  Well, CS2 still works fine for me so I'm not in the hurry. :D Yeah, I still have my Sinar F1 on the shelf. I don't think I could afford digital back for it. Still remembered the old days with film.... looking back now it was very time consuming, especially with B&W printing. But I love it!

Oh! here is another cat for this thread...

Ran in to this cat on my way to work. Just happened to have my camera with me. :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

That cat is on its ninth life, where it begins to collapse inwards on itself, sucking in cat particles from miles around.  So even though it looks like a normal cat it is extremely dense and has a mass of over 3 tons, hence the flattened tire.  Super dense dwarf cats are hard to find in the wild, great find!

Mamiya has supposedly has a 22MP back for only $8K that will be usable on a view camera via an adaptor. It's been promised for years, but I don't know if the adaptor exist yet, or the quality of the images. $8K sounds high, but it's a third of the competition.

I shot some studio stuff a few years ago w/ an old Phase One P20. The cropped image was no higher rez than my Canon SLR, but the 16 bit color depth made a huge difference in overall quality.

I sure would love to play with a digital back, but when I can get 100+MP with a couple bucks of film and a $900 scanner (and don't have to worry about pleasing customers or anything) it seems pretty wacky.  In my limited experience with public exhibition I've learned that the vast majority of people aren't tuned into the cool factor of sharpness and detail, only other photographers are!

(Hey nathanm, this is a thread about cute puppies and kitties, don't go starting a flame war about film vs. digital or I'll have to take administrative action on your ass!)
