fill in bass traps
« on: 28 Apr 2009, 08:52 am »
I am considering a few diy corner bass traps using 6" of rockwool. I would like to make the traps to look more like a large sack than a panel by adding bulk in front of the rockwool.

Any recommendations on what to use as fill? Would polyfill work?

I am not looking for additional absorption or reflection necessarily, just bulk!

Not sure exactly what look you're after.  Polyfill will be OK and not change the properties much.

Interesting.  It it were me I'd probably just use more Rockwool since it's hard to get too much absorption at low bass freqs, but I guess the fill would be okay.  Seems like it would probably have some impact on the highs but I can't say for sure.

Hi there, I use fiberglass fill, the pink stuff.
they sell in rolls, which works well.

Thanks for the info! My listening area backs up to the kitchen dining area. I thought I would cover the traps in burlap and stencil on some coffee lingo so they look like sacks of coffee beans...try to improve the WAF.

You might be able to get some burlap coffee bags for next to nothing; if you haven't looked at this already, check it out.
