In those threads, I see mostly positive comments from those who have heard a granite baffle. One exception regards reflections off the rear baffle, which are easily tamed. Otherwise the comments are of the nature of "wow." I suspect superior wavelaunch is one causative factor.

....and please correct me if you feel I'm headed up the wrong tree...be it an Ash, Maple or an Aluminum Alloy hybrid!
In another post here I have a sketch of a dipole speaker to which I'm currently in the final design stage. I also gave some thought to the mounting of the LF drivers. I theorized that a cage comprising of two mounting flanges coupled with aluminum bar stock or hardwood dowels would support the drivers. This cage would float in the baffle with a very close tolerance gap between them. The speaker basket and magnet structure would both be supported, but free of direct contact with the speaker baffle (of solid special mix concrete). This cage would be supported by a framework terminating at the base of the unit making contact with the floor via oversize spikes.
It will be at least two months before I actually begin construction of my design as I'm physically unable to navigate a workspace or hump any weight; even a couple of pounds. On the drafting table are a few prints I've drawn up and I highly appreciate the feedback I've recieved already...."specially Bob's! ..and look forward to any additional comments or suggestions.

In my own case dealing with the B200, it was night and day between between magnet mount and baffle mount. The result of magnet mount was to reveal a whole layer of detail that had been previously lost I seem to think that the speaker projected better, as well, which may have something to due with the fact that you hold the driver at it greatest mass, the magnet. You would really have to do it, to find out for yourself, no amount of talking about it will do.

Done properly, you will not go back to baffle mounting. Your speakers become absolutely invisible.

What did you use to seal the gap between the speaker and the baffle? I have seen people use foam weather striping.

Have you tried magnet mounting with a very thick sturdy baffle say 2"-3" thick? Do you think you would still see a benefit on a thicker baffle?

Hi Jamie, the baffle in the picture is 38mm thick or 1 1/2'" in your language. This was built 3 years ago. I now use a 65mm baffle. I do this because I believe that you need to have as inert baffle as you can get. I use 4 different substrates to make up the 65mm of thickness, laminated together. But I still use a steel frame behind it. Both the rubber between the rear bar and steel frame , and the rubber gasket between the driver and baffle is insertion rubber. This rubber will not squash under pressure. Hope this helps

Mark, you will find the B200 will respond to it very well. I noticed the sound stage becoming much deeper as well. I run my speakers 1.5 m into the room, and the sound stage front to back is at least 3m, and very precise

The basket assembly was presumably designed to massively fix the magnet position.

Maybe I'm thick, but that driver is still going to be mounted via the flange with the magnet weight/mass hanging off of it. Magnet mounting is designed to hold the driver by it's greatest weight/mass, no? Thus eliminating the stress on the baffle, yes?
