Niteshade NS-50 Tube Stereo Amplifier

This is not a 2009 amplifier, but you are looking at a new rendition of it. Just like the F2A amp, this was a custom order. Designed around low impedance primary, wide bandwidth output transformers, she really performs well with 6L6's and KT-88 output tubes. By far, this somewhat new (as of 2008) model has been the most popular. The pictured amp is clothed in a Autumn Red finish. Features at a glance: Variable negative feedback, tunable biasing and a OD3 regulator.

Coming soon will be another NS-50 done up in Piano Black with a ceramic base. Stay tuned! This one will have a nifty feature not seen on the models posted so far.

The NS-50 featured above is substantially different than the other NS-50's produced to date. The most unusual feature is our multi-mode power supply. It's possible to switch between either a tube rectifier or solid state diodes. Power output is doubled when in diode mode versus the tube rectifier. This is because there is higher voltage on the tube plates and the voltage has better regulation. In tube rectifier mode, plate voltage is reduced and voltage regulation is much softer. This will reduce output down to around 25 watts/channel maximum. The power tubes will run cooler and the sonics will be a little warmer (more of a classical tube tone). This is not to say overly warm- just a tad bit warmer. Either way, they amp is incredibly transparent and delivery is impeccably accurate.

Along with the Tube/Diode rectification modes, we installed tunable biasing. This control is all about accurately finding the power tube's tonal sweet spot, easily and non-technically. Meters and current/voltage readings are not necessary. The bias control is set up at 12 O'Clock in the lab. This is what I consider nominal calibration under my test conditions.

Variable negative feedback was installed too. With this is it possible to compensate for speaker impedance curves and allow the amplifier to match up perfectly to your system. I saw a thread on here where people were blocking their tweeters to curb the high frequency response. Variable negative feedback makes it easy to do this without any speaker mods. It's one of the most powerful options we have available.

Along with all these goodies, oversize 60 watt power transformers were used. These transformers can easily accept any transients. We did this in order to further promote transparency at very high volumes. Hard to drive speakers will never be an issue with this upgrade, nor will the extra current demands necessary for movie playback at high volumes be any problem.

All of these features combine to provide the owner with the ultimate amplification tool. Flexibility promotes better sound quality and that is an indisputable FACT.

I haven't said much about how our new preamplifier sounds.

It's transparent. Highs are not rolled off at all, mids and base are not accented or attenuated at all. My favorite sonic quality, other than transparency is high resolution: The ability to amplify fine details with precision.

The NS-50 was designed to have the same qualities as our preamp. Both units were developed for critical listening. Both units compliment each other in appearance and performance perfectly. Shown in this thread is a special NS-50 that has switchable tube/diode rectification, 60 watt output transformers, Variable Negative Feedback and Tunable Bias. Guess what?
