the two proto types I saw are the same basic dynaco configuration as the U70, though I  don't know what the new ones will look like.

You are going to love the new U70. It will have a polished #8 stainless steel chassis and a very nice faceplate. The circuit board will be buried inside the chassis, exposing the 2 6GH8A tubes via thru holes. At least that is the current plans. The faceplate may be the usual 2 anodized familiar variety (unless Frank has a different idea) and should look very attractive.

We are in the quoting process now.

I have another dynakit 70 ready for a future rebuild. Sure be nice to use it's cloth lead opt's with Frank's bigger power transformer and updated power supply. Maybe find a little more extension                                   in the top end, then I could have my own Ultimate II.  :D

I wouldn't be surprised if the treble sounds better in an Ultimate than a stock ST-70, but the real limitation is the output transformer.

An output transformer that does bass well doesn't do treble well, and vice versa.

That's why the Holy Grail that people were chasing for years was the OTL tube amp.

It was an unrealistic goal, since tubes just aren't suited for low impedance loads like a speaker. They need a transformer to transform a typical speaker load into something they can handle.

Yes, people tried to sell OTL amps, but they never really worked well at anything other than providing a career for the repair technician.

??
What about Atma-sphere or Joule? Your statements are past tense, and both Joule and Atma-sphere are doing still in business and selling OTL amps. Broken all the time?  My OTL has never broke. I have had it for years.

Skrivis,

I think that is why everyone is excited about the upgrade as both bass and highend are fantastic. I keep looking at the amp and saying to myself "33 watts per channel?" This amp drives my cherished Dynaco A25XLs into attack mode. I haven't listened to anything else since I did  the changes.

OK hotroady, now I have you and Frank prodding me. It's suppose to rain this afternoon. If it does then I'll do it. I still have a jumper problem.
