Should this experiment come out with Frank and/or a number of other people hearing a difference between two power cords, might I talk those involved into letting me borrow the two cables afterward (and maybe the DAC they were powering)? I'd really like to run some DiffMaker tests on these to see what signal differences might be happening. I'd be happy to post online the difference WAV or DYF files afterward. That would give everyone interested something to listen to (synchronized recordings and a listenable difference recording).
To date, the only cables I've tested were between a cheap set of interconnects and a merely inexpensive set of interconnects (result: a pretty damn silent difference file, but then no one was claiming any wonders for either cable). I've tried some tests with speaker cables earlier on, but had trouble with ground loops and a software bug (now solved) and haven't been able to try again since. I want to try power cables, but one problem is I'm too cheap to outright buy any of the expensive ones that might be considered relevant. And I doubt the result of such a test would mean much to anyone unless the test was run with the cables powering something which people were already reporting a non-subtle difference with. Of course, even with that arrangement, it could be that other associated equipment might be involved in making some difference happen during normal listening tests. But that might help narrow down what, if anything, is happening.
