The reason for my question is that if it's after he accepted Paul's offer, that would tell me about how open minded Frank is in regard to this experiment, if it was before his offer, well, then that was why Paul made the offer to Frank in the first place.

Frank was never shy in voicing his beliefs on cables.

Well considering how long he's been using that excuse, both in the AVA Circle and in the Critics Circle, I would say that statement was made WELL before Occam's offer to Frank so WELL before this thread, hense it being a really low attempt from him to be flinging it out here. I'm hanging onto my stones as carefully as I can here. aa

It wouldn't be reasonable of me or anyone to expect Frank to have changed his long held beliefs after he accepted my offer. I can only hope that he will change those beliefs after hearing the cord I'm sending him, in his system, under his test conditions.

FWIW,
Paul

Rob, here was the 1st time he brought up the subject back on Dec 12:

Mel-

Frank choose to make my private comments about the power cord and the Hafler public.

I spent $160. on shipping to try his amp and put over 300 hours on it before sending it back.

Like I said, all I want now is a prompt refund.

Aloha,

Dan

I don't think Frank SHOULD change his beliefs (until after the experiment if it goes that way).  My only concern was how open minded he would be when he conducted the experiment.

Now that I know the date of the PM (Thanks Robin) I am relatively certain Frank will be open minded during the experiment.

If one can't tell the diff between MP3s and straight redbook, can such a person hear the differences between power cords?

Happy New Year!!  :wine:

Robin- Once again you're wrong, it was Frank who first posted this on 12/12/08:

"Inasmuch as the first correspondence I had from jhm731 after shipping him the amplifier was a concern that it had a captive power cord and that our web site did not caution everyone that our equipment does have captive power cords, I had a bad feeling about this one immediately."

He went on to offer the amp I had just returned, for sale, a week before I received a refund.

Good luck to Paul, if he thinks someone who tells his customers that changing power cables is "pure audiophlake foo foo dust," is going to change his mind.

Wayner - I'm still waiting for you to provided details about all the "potential problems and other weird manifestations,"
from using IEC connectors and after market power cords.

I've been using using equipment with IEC connectors and after market/DIY power cords for 20+ years and never had problem.

I know it is a little off topic but could someone point me towards a beginners explanation as to why the power cords make a difference?
Thanks

Should this experiment come out with Frank and/or a number of other people hearing a difference between two power cords, might I talk those involved into letting me borrow the two cables afterward (and maybe the DAC they were powering)?  I'd really like to run some DiffMaker tests on these to see what signal differences might be happening.   I'd be happy to post online the difference WAV or DYF files afterward.  That would give everyone interested something to listen to (synchronized recordings and a listenable difference recording).

Seconded - I'd be very interested to see the results of that.

I am not an expert on audio and new to all this tweak stuff and high end components that these NY ravers own but I can say I was at Paul's gathering and we swapped out cables and I heard a difference in every cable we swapped out.
