I am a big fan of Reggae music and thought that others might be as well. I would love to see a list of your favorite records. I will start with a few, but could easily add many more:

The best live recording of Bob Marley can be found easily on the 'net for free...

i think archive.org might still have it.

Its from the early 1970's, maybe '74, and was recorded by KSAN in san Francisco at their legendary offices
called the Record Plant...in Sausalito

I wish there were more like this!!!

Thank you for the heads up! I haven't checked out archive.org since they flushed most of the 'Dead, looks like it's time to check them out again.

ISLAND(UK) 1978 Released 12" by BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS - NO WOMAN NO CRY (Live At The Lyceum 1975).

This 45 RPM record sounds the best of any other rendition of this song I have heard.

"audiophile" reggae is a tough one for sure.  My favorite style is the early ska stuff and so many of them are real bad sounding.  That second disk that comes with "The Harder They Come" is fantastic.  "Guava Jelly" by Johnny Nash on that album is one of my all time favorite reggae songs.
For some new/dubby/not Jamaican reggae check out John Brown's Body.  Their album "Pressure Points" is quite good as is their older stuff.  Also check out the dubtastic Ten Foot Ganja Plant's "Midnight Landing".  I will have to search my reggae collection for what I would call audiophile.  I generally don't listen critically to reggae I just jam.

10' Ganja Plant's Hillside Airstrip is also very good. Alpha Blondy's Jah Glory is another to check out. Midnite's Ras Mek Peace is very good.

I have really been loving  :thumb:

I only own one of their compilation albums called "Sweet Talking".

I am not claiming it is an audiophile recording by any stretch.  It is great music.

There are some incredible songs on this album and the recording quality varies from track to track.

I highly recommend checking it out if you haven't heard it.

Great thread topic.

Now you'r bring back some serious memories.  Midnite use to call DC home for several years.  They played twice a week at Bukom Cafe and once a week at the Kaffa House.  When the music got realy serious and the Rasta spirit started to take over I would run up to the band stand and bang out a mighty Jah rhythm on the congas Vaugh (the singer of the 2 brothers that are the core of the band) would have on stage.  As a matter of fact I have just picked up 2 more of their disc.

Jah bless

Culture, two sevens clash

the year...1977. This was THE reggae album of that era, roots reggae.
I have the original LP version, but haven't played it in quite a while. There is a 30th Anniversary CD version that came out last year which maybe the one to get..

As an avid reggae fan (800+ LP's and CD's) I can't think of much that's audiophile. That said, there is a ton of great sounding stuff and endless amounts of what I would consider classic recordings. Check out this list for a very good place to start:

The list is actually very good and will give the average listener a great starting point. Pick any title and you're assured to enjoy some good reggae music.
