Chuck:

Please post your pics up already so this thread has some relevance to the topic, and some relevance to 2-Channel Audio.

Also, please refrain from further threats from now on. We know you're just an old coot..and do provide us with much comedy..but it will still not be allowed. This is your second warning. Any future threat you make will be sent to the Intergalactic Wastebin with whatever else you write in the post. This will be in accordance with the fact that it should go to the Fight Club, where it is against the rules, and be moved to the Intergalactic Wastebin..so I will just skip the unneccesary steps and save Pez some trouble.

So does anyone besides Psychicanimal want the sampler disc?
I`m an MTV fan Nate, it`s ALL good. I`ll give it a listen. Besides, this could just be the ticket for breaking in my Lorelei's!!! :D Regards, Robin

Breaking in your Loreleis or BREAKING your Loreleis?
I'm assuming you've never heard Boltthower before, have you?
Nathan, are you going to include some BT for us? Maybe some Carcass, Morbid Angel, Morgoth OR Mortician... Of course I doubt you'll bother with commercial sell-outs like Slayer or Sepultura... Oh, oh I know, Screaming Demons! Those are the best by FAR! Thanks Chuck! :)

I`m 52 dude, what do you want from me? As far as headbanging music hurting the Lorelei's, why not take your concerns to Klaus! That's where I'll be going if I have any problems Andrikos,,,   Regards, Robin

Hell yeah, Andrikos is speaking my language!  So far I've got Slayer in there (Reign In Blood - the obvious choice) and I do have all of those other bands you mentioned, (er, expect Morgoth)  but as of yet haven't ripped any WAVs yet.  Mortician is kind of comically bad though - that drum machine is goofy.  Bolt Thrower  if Chuck played that on his system his neighbors would think there was a thunderstorm rolling in.  If you want to test your subwoofers try the band Skepticism.  Their drummer concocted some kind of atypical drum kit that has what I assume must be some very large diameter drums.  That combined with the organ makes for some awesome low bass action.  Music is a bit boring though, which makes it perfect audiophile demo music (ie technically exciting, musically boring) :P

I say, "Forced to fight behind...the crooked cross!"  South of Heaven is the True Metal!  Reign in Blood isn't quite up there, IMO.

Reign in Blood not quite "up there"!? Blasphemy! :P  I love South Of Heaven just as much though.  Maybe I should mail Chuck some Slayer sheet music.  Since he's a Julliard graduate he should be able to play that stuff on the accordian no problem.  Because as you know, this kind of garbage music takes no talent to play whatsoever.  Just think; both Chuck and The Great Kat are alumni!

Nathan,

Count me in on a sampler please.  I can pick it up on the hand off of the Purist.  My wife is an old school big time headbanger - although perhaps not to the level you are...

There was also a band I used to listen to in college, I think it was Nuclear Assult or Metal Assult or something like that, but it would have been like 1985 or so.  I looked at their albums on Amazon and none of them were familiar.  The album I'm thinking of had a big mushroom cloud for a cover and on it there was a remake of a slower 50's/60's tune.  Damn, I musta killed too many brain cells (studying of course) in that time period...

I remember Nuclear Assault too! They were pretty short lived. I think they all died of narcotic overdose and a severe case of humiliation and shame when Chuck lectured them that they were doomed to the bowels of HELL because they were screaming demons...

Oh well, back to my Winton Marsallis CD...

Why?  Are you ashamed? Awww...

Byteme - the album is "Game Over" by Nuclear Assault.  The "Mr. Softee Theme" is on there, is that what you're thinking of perhaps?  I read recently that they are reforming with most or all of the original lineup.  Usually those kinda things don't turn out very well, but it's still kinda cool.

Chuck,

You disappoint me.   :nono:

If you were truly objective you would have signed up to listen to Nathan's sampler CD.  I want to hear what he considers top notch heavy metal.  We have had disagreements but I do reallize that he is a speciallist in that genre.  I had a roomate in college who was really into heavy metal and I ended up with albums from Michael Schenker (sp?), Triumph, Dokken, Def Leppard, Lords of the New Church, Vixen, Dream Theatre...

If I passed around a salsa sampler CD, would you say no too?

OK Brothers Chuck & Nathan,

Here's a ready made wire damping product for use inside loudspeakers:

http://www.audiopoints.com/Sonoran_hookup.HTML

It would be nice if someone would try these and post the results.

Aww wookit the widdle pudgy cables!  They're so cute! :)

Yeah Chuck it's too bad you decided to add another blotch to your tarnished reputation.  Hmph.

I find it ironic that if someone criticizes your audio tweaks without trying them you retort with "just try it and tell me what you thought!"  Fair enough.  But then you have the chutzpah to tell ME sight unseen that I have no taste, no talent, that I take drugs, that the music I listen to is not even music and made by "screaming demons" and when I offer you the chance to actually listen to the music I really DO own you flat out refuse!  :o

Quote from: H.L. Mencken
"The believing mind is externally impervious to evidence. The most that can be accomplished with it is to induce it to substitute one delusion for another. It rejects all overt evidence as wicked..."

IF after listening to it you still felt the same way that's cool; you are entitled to your opinion.  At least you would have gotten the facts straight.  But you even didn't want to do that.  It's easier to throw out insults and criticize what you are ignorant of, isn't it?  Obviously you are set in your ways and feel that musical progression is tainting the "purity" of a certain genre.  I can totally understand that point of view.  I'm guilty of it myself, relatively speaking.  But if you look at it objectively that occurs everywhere.  There is no really pure genre, it's all a mixture of what came before and new ideas.

But fine, if that's how you want it - no problem.  Just think twice before you ever decide to come at me again with any of your insulting drivel.

Those cables are sheathed with steel microbearings, which *do* turn vibration into heat.  Inside a speaker cabinet is where the cabling needs the most damping.  Lak has purchased microbearings in bulk for his speaker stands and I have seen the material.  Lak loves the stuff.  It makes sense, though Audiopoints sells it at "audiophile" prices.  I work at a power station and I've seen ads for microbearings in power industry magazines.  Seems that stuff is sold in bulk quantities to fill whatever is that they are used to fill.

Where is Chuck to comment about this?  This is his specialty, isn't it?  Chuck, if you don't come up with rational answers/posts anytime soon Nathan wins.... :thankyou:

Nathanm,
There is NO way ANYBODY would like black metal from a first listen point of view. This music is SO much an acquired taste, it would take MONTHS to appreciate. I'm serious.
The lightning fast solos that go back and forth between Hanneman and King may sound like Sonic Nirvana to you and I, but I'll bet you it sounds like "screaming demons" to the uninitiated and closed-minded (i.e. Chuck). It's not exactly "easy listening" elevator light Jazz a-la whats-his-face the curly saxophonist. You know who I'm talkin' about.

Anyway, on other issues, I was viewing AND respecting your gallery and I couldn't help but admire the nice job you did on the power cords. Brilliant. Could you share the "recipe" with us? :)

Er, well Slayer isn't "Black Metal", it's thrash or speed metal.  Black Metal would be stuff like Mayhem, Immortal, Emperor, Burzum etc. (although some may categorize Satanic themed material as "black metal", although the music is much different than what the Norwegians created) Anyway, technicalities aside you are correct, at first listen some metal music will be competely overwhelming.  This is also the same 'aurally assaulting' attribute that makes people fans of it.  Still, anyone with a musical background should be able to hear through the 'noise' and be able to ackknowledge the skill, dexterity and sheer stamina it must take to play this stuff.  Cripes, try air-drumming along with Dave Lombardo sometime - you arms will turn into mush before one song's over! Heh!  And many bands have awesome, clever, intelligent lyrics if you care to read them.

The power cords?  Top secret recepie - if I told you I'd have to kill you.  No seriously, for the 5-way there's six strands of 18AWG silver-plated copper in a teflon jacket twisted into tight pairs with a drill motor and then I hand-braided the three pairs together for each plug.  Then the five braids were braided into one big braid, plugs were terminated, shrink tube added, tested with a multi-meter for continuity and bob's your uncle.  A good week or two on and off of work for the sole purpose of saving myself four  spots on the 'ol power strip.  Not a project I care to repeat anytime soon!

Jackman bought a pair of my interconnects, which are the best cables he's ever used.  I'm looking forward to his review.  Not everyone will be able to afford them, as they are true reference level stuff.  There are built-in gaps where up to 47 wire staples may be attached to the optional sheet of Sorbothane-impregnated HDF hybrid material which must be terminated to the earth's mantle using the provided deep drilling rig and concrete pillars.
