Acoustic reality is a HiFi Audio Company which produces Amplifiers based on the B&O Icepower module. AR sells their product through the internet only  with a 14 day money back guarantee. Since  I was in Denmark, I requested some time for auditioning for some of their products which later turned out that was way far off the place I was in Denmark. This was the response I had from Peter from AR.

"In case we should spend time to let customers come here and consume our time
then the price would be much higher, similar to retailers.
In case you have special requirements regarding audition before buying, then
you should go to retailers and pay minimum the doubl price than our. That's
simple, isn't it?

Best regards,
Peter Thomsen, Acoustic Reality - Denmark"

Please go ahead and order AR products blind....

if you search the web for info about peter, i think you will find that you received one of the more helpful & friendly answers from him, compared to experiences others have had.

I guess "Reality" takes on a new form.

Of course he's right, that is what retailing should be for.  Most of us have found a cheaper (and perhaps better) route via the internet, raves, fests, and club meetings.

These are the kind of replys that makes the vendors and manufacturers here at AC so special.  Next time I'm put off by "one of our own" not responding or being slow to answer, I'll try to remember Peter and all his poor examples.

OTOH maybe Peter is making lots of money, or doesn't handle pressure well, or just isn't a people person.  I have given up trying to find/make excuses for him.  If he doesn't interact well, he should just let someone else do it for him.

His was the only amp I've ever returned to the manufacturer (started smoking with a purple flash when I first plugged it in).  I remember his berating me for not telling him I was planning to use it with Quad 63's, at first, then giving me a hard time for not finding an internal blown fuse when he got it back.  Of course, given the sticker on the amp that warned that the warranty was voided by opening the case, I was not about to open a smoking amp up, thus voiding my warranty, before I sent it back to him.  "Eccentric" is the word that comes to mind if I ever think of him.

A blast from the past.  Peter is great, pun intended.  He hasn't changed, and he hasn't anytime for such peons as ourselves.  I actually got a couple of positive response from him, when I first started at Harmonic Discord.
But all in all, he is an irascible self proclaimed genious. Gotta love him, just do it from afar.

Some manufacturers will not only let you listen to the product...they will give you a factory tour if you stop by.

If he doesn't interact well, he should just let someone else do it for him.

He DID have a great person to interact with the customers in the US, but he couldn't get along with HIM for very long and that relationship ended.

Peter Thompson called me about three years back asking if I'd be interested in representing his products in the US.

I was aware how shabbily he had treated his previous rep and the conversation went nowhere.

One of my customers owns an AR amp which blew up when he accidentally let speaker wires touch.  He had to pay for roundtrip air and the repair costs.  When the amp came back it sounded rather strange, which the owner eventually traced to the replacement amp module having been installed backwards at the factory.  Contacting Peter, he was told to pay for another roundtrip airfare ($500) to have the botched repair fixed.

Wow...his last post was indeed one year ago today.  That IS ironic, eh?  :o

As for this thread, I'd like to thank everyone for remaining on topic, and especially for avoiding the temptation to steer it in an unacceptable direction.  Some have privately questioned its propriety (including me, initially) due to Audio Circle's very clearly stated "no dirty laundry" policy (look here, beneath "What can't I post?"), but if Audio Circle is about anything, it's about sharing audio-related experiences, be it with the equipment, the people or the music.  As long as the discussion avoids current, ongoing disagreements, there'll be no interference from me or anyone else.

Peter has generated a *LOT* of controversy through the years, and whether we're expressing our disbelief at recent exchanges or rehashing old war stories, it's all still part of the audio experience.

With that said, carry on!  :D

hi du,

thanks for bringing up the appropriateness of this thread.  i was considering posting about this, myself.  the original post of this thread is about a specific, current experience someone had w/acoustic reality.  (i, personally, think it's very appropriate.)  but, i am still miffed that another thread, which discussed issues consumers had w/electraglide's william hall, was sent into the intergalactic wastebin.  that thread, like this one, was the poster's first post to the audio circle.  and, the original poster was actually banned for posting the thread:

what gives?

FWIW, Peter was very nice to meet in person.  He was at my house for about 24 hours.  Coming from Denmark, I thought he new all about "gentlemans" clubs.  Turned out a few of us AC guys (including a well known mfgr with a circle here), showed him everything he knows....The last I heard, he's STILL afraid his wife will find out he has carnal knowledge of lap dances

Many here might not know, but we actually started AC because Peter refused to sell his products to those that belonged to HarmonicDiscord

Actually that's not far from the truth...Peter did actually SAY he wouldn't sell to HD members.

Peter was partially responsible for AC...don't believe me? See:

Hi doug,

The topic of this thread may be about a "specific, current experience" ('recent' experience, actually  ), but semantics aside, it isn't so much a gripe as as it is an expression of surprise and dismay IMHO.  So while the OP's feelings about AR and Peter may remain, the situation itself isn't really "current", nor is it "ongoing" or a "disagreement", thus it is appropriate.

Conversely, the referenced Electra Glide thread was and is a current, ongoing disagreement, and as such it was and is inappropriate.

I don't make the rules, doug, I just try to enforce them.

FWIW, I've been Audio Central's facilitator all of 8 days, and wasn’t around when all this took place.

talk about splitting hairs!?!

personally, i think this thread & the electra glide thread are pretty-much the same thing.  i am glad this one is allowed to continue.  my only issue is the other should be re-instated, as well as the banned member, who should be inwited back.

good luck w/your new facilitator yob - i know it's a thankless & difficult task.  it took the audio circle's moderators almost two years to see the error of its ways and allow me back in, after it banned me...   :green:
