Bolder Comes to St Louis
« on: 4 Aug 2007, 07:58 pm »
Hiya Guys,

Thought you might want to know that Wayne of Bolder Cable will be coming into town during the afternoon of Thursday August 16th. After he gets his daughter set up out at Mizzou for the fall semester, Wayne and his wife are going to stop by for a few hours, have some dinner (hopefully), hang out and listen to music.

I wanted to extend the invitation to anybody that wants to come out and hang. This one will be very informal. We'll probably listen to the latest SB3 uber mods vs. the older reference mods plus maybe we'll probably spin some vinyl (FYI, Wayne is a Classic Rock fan).  If you haven't met Wayne before, he's a really good guy.

Should be loads of fun, so come on out if'n yooz can make it.  :thumb:

I now think even more of Wayne that he is sending his daughter to the finest school in the midwest---Mizzou.  Ok, ok, I happen to be an alumni, so I'm biased.

Cheers,
Brad

Glad he's making it out.  I wanted to say something to him but I'm so flaky on schedule these days, didn't want to get something scheduled and then have to back out.

I'd love to stop out and see Wayne while he's here.  Let us know the time so we don't stomp on the dinner plans.

Thanks for the welcome  :thumb:

The day might be changed. We may be in St. Louis the afternoon/evening of Wednesday the 15th.

I hope that doesn't screw things up for a get together.

Could anyone suggest a nice place to stay in the vicinity of Scott F's place?

Hiya Wayne,

Coming in a day early isn't a problem (at least for me). Here is a link to the local motels in the area;

Both of the hotels in Pacific (2 miles from my house) are nice. We stayed at the Quality Inn last summer when we had the power outage. They don't have a restaurant but the place is clean and comfy. The Comfort Lodge is only a year old. Haven't stayed there but it should be fairly nice. They don't have a restaurant either. there is a Huddle House (think Waffle House) right next door. The food is just OK. Unfortunately, Pacific lacks decent eateries.

Over in Eureka (about 5 miles away via the hiway), there is the Holiday Inn West at Six Flags. It is a very nice hotel with a couple of restaurants and bars. Quite a bit more money but nicer accommodations. There are a number of other hotels in Eureka as you'll see from the list. The one nice thing about Eureka is if you are into Antiques, there are probably a dozen shops in town. Eureka does have a number of decent places to eat also.

Ohh contrar monfrar..... Pacific has a world class Mexican restaurant. It's across Route 66/Osage Blvd from the Chevrolet Dealership in the strip mall, few doors down from the Agape House. I think it's called "El' Agave" if I remember correctly. Super, intergalactic, blue ribbon winning world class Mexican food. Get the Tortilla dinner plate. It's more food than a man should eat (order extra Fajitas, you'll need them.) Their Chili Relleno is good too.
Very reasonable prices and the beer is cold.

Know what, we've been meaning to try that place for some time. My youngest daughter has said it was good but her definition of good is Domino's. I guess we'll have to pay them a visit, thanks  :thumb:

The "fellas" and I ate there (at least) once a week when I worked at Chevy.
That's the only restaurant I miss from Pacific. Granted, all but once the orders we had were all take-out. I've only dined-in one time.

Re: Huddle House; I've not heard one person say anything good about that place. I've never eaten there. We were all excited when the building was being constructed that a new eatery was coming. We never went do to the constant bad reviews of our customers.

Huddle House/Waffle House is an acquired taste.  You either like it or don't.

Just thought I'd give the post a bump in case somebody didn't see it.

BTW, Wayne just dropped me a PM. We will be here next Wednesday night the 15th. I'll post some more details in a day or so.

Couldn't tell ya Max.  Never had a waffle there.  I always do the ham and cheese omelet with hash browns, scattered, smothered, and covered.

Hiya Guys,

I talked to Wayne this afternoon and he'll be be here somewhere around 2:00 or 3:00. Don't worry, he'll be hanging out for most of the evening.  :thumb:

May thoughts were to treat Wayne and his wife to some St Louis originals, namely St Louis Style pizza, Toasted Ravioli and some of the local micro-brews. Pizza will be coming from what I consider the best pizza in town, Faracci's (same goes for the toasted ravioli's). Sometime over the weekend I'll grab a variety pack of brews from Schlafly's. I'm not sure if any of you guys want to bring something from some other micro-breweries but if you do, I'm sure Wayne would appreciate it.

I'm planning on having the food here about 6:30 or so. What I need to know is how many of you guys will make it for supper and if so, what flavor pizza you like.

Also, be sure to post back if you are going to make it so I have an idea how many people to expect.

We'll see (some of) you guys next Wednesday  :green:

I hope to be able to meet some more of you guys.

As well as the culinary treats that Scott is offering, I will be bringing out a stock Burson buffer. George (Zybar) is sending out the modded Burson Buffer for comparison. I know most of you prefer tubes, but I think listening to a modded SB through the Burson Buffer might be educational.

There should also be at least one of the Statement level modded SB3s showing up.

It just might be fun to compare it to some of the earlier mods or Scott's vinyl rig.

I will try to bring some of the tunes I have been listening to lately. I would love to gat a chance to hear the GAS organ reference disc.

See ya all next week.

I am sad to say that modified Burson buffer heads out tomorrow morning.

You guys are in for quite a treat!!

BTW, have the best of both worlds and do what I do:

Too bad you can't make it Jamie.  :(

For those of you that are coming, you are in for a treat. I set up the Teresonics in the Redrum. This time they have different drivers. Jon Verhalen sent me a fresh pair of PM2T's (with the uber rare Ticonal magnet) that have Silver voice coils. I broke them in with the Martin King MLTL's and they sounded surprisingly good. There is something about T-S parameters of these drivers that 'work' in a quarter wave enclosure. Just yesterday I swapped cabinets. Let's just say, I think you will be impressed, very impressed.

Oh, I'm driving them with the new Consonance Cyber 10 USB, single ended integrated amp that I just got in for evaluation. It takes KT-88's, EL-34's, 6L6's, 6550's or most any other octal base. It is switchable between single ended or pentode mode. There are some pretty good sounds coming out of the Redrum. Considerably better than when you last heard the Teresonics with the DX-4's.

Oh, and of course we'll have Waynes latest Statement modded SB3 and the Burson Buffer to listen to (it will only have about 5 days on it, oh it has V-Caps so expect it to sound completely different the next time you hear it).

See you guys Wednesday.
BTW, who all is coming? I know Bryan is for sure. Sturgus, are you still going to make it? Anybody else?
