I will say the recording I heard of Tocatta and Fugue at Christchuurch was THE best organ recording I have ever heard.

Scott,

Being a fan of good pipe organ music myself, can you elaborate on what recording and a source for it if it's local?

Thanks!

Tom

Tom,

The T&F was recorded locally by one of our members who is a professional recording engineer, John Blaine. This particular recording isn't commercially available (yet). I've got no doubt that in one of our upcoming Gateway Audio Society Reference Recordings, we will be releasing it.

The recording itself was made at Christ Church Cathedral. Dennis Bergin was the organist. Here is a picture of the organ it was played on.

Here is a link to the information on the AEolian-Skinner the piece was played on. On this page is a PDF that you can download and read all about it.

Sometime in the next couple of months, we'll have our first release that was played on this same organ. It will be Dupre's 14 Stations of the Cross.

Thanks for the info Scott, especially the pic of that beautiful Skinner!  My daughter goes to Hope College in Holland MI, where they just spent 2 years restoring the 1928 Skinner at Dimnent Memorial Chapel.  It sounds absolutely glorious, though the available recordings aren't much to write home about yet, at least sonically.  Too bad, because the venue is superb in an old stone church sort of way.

I'll really look forward to those releases, so please do keep us posted as they come to fruition.

.... and now, back to our regularly scheduled thread

To Tom,  we should talk sometime.  Fort wayne has a large number of fine insturments.  it also playes host to probably prestigeous organ competions in the nation .
as for the skinner insturment you spoke of; E.M. skinner was a very fine builder and eventually merged with Aeolian company with G. Donald Harrison at the helm. Thus came to be Aeolian-Skinner.  Christ Church
cathedral, St. Louis In the early 1900's had an E.M. skinner until the early 1960's when a contract with the Aeolian
skinner company was let.  This is the present Insturment in Christ Church. Of some intrest to you might be the fact that several ranks of the old E.M. Skinner were retained for use in the New cathedral insturment.

                       Sincerly ,

Thanks to you also from me, Scott.  Due to my somewhat late arrival, and you'r multiple first class systems, I wasnt able to hear as much from Wayne as i would have liked.  Maybe You and the other guys can bring me up to speed?                                                                                                                                                                                           John B.
