I'm not impressed. So you have lots of do-ray-me. It takes more than money to put together a well balanced system THAT HAS A BUDGET!

Agreed, my system did not come together overnight...it was carefully built by comparing pieces over the last 8 years on an almost continual basis.

In a comparison of two pieces, I kept the one that sounded best.

I have done so many comparisons of so many little and big things that when someone says that RCA's don't matter, it tells me that either their system or their hearing is not as revealing as mine (not making a judgment as to whether that is a good or bad thing, and my hearing ain't nothing to brag about at 46 years of age) or they did not try the comparison with say Eichman Gold and Eichman Silver RCA's.  Or between say Eichman Gold and WBT GOLD.  With the RCA's as the only variable, the wire being the same.

For the record I prefer the less expensive gold connectors in my system, but I also learned that by adding Silclear to the Gold RCA's, you can get them to sound identical to the silver ones for a heck of a lot less $$$.

Comparing a larger $$$ budget to a smaller $$$ budget, everything else being equal, I'll take the carefully put together system with the larger budget.  In this case I would also say it was a more carefully put together system.

With regards to Zybar..that guy has a bigger budget then mine and he put his system together VERY carefully by comparison as well.

Woodsyi, if you are not yet upsampling to 24/96, I can certainly understand how you feel.  Once you get your new pc up and going and upsampling.  Please let me know your thoughts.

I am upsampling.  I am using an HP/Agilant Labgrade power supply with my Off ramp.  What are you using?  I run a hard USB cable between the Off Ramp and a Dell XPS200 but I am streaming music wirelessly from my NAS.  Dell PC gets a little noisy in the room so I am getting a silent PC built.  DOS is building it for me.   :thumb:

My Off Ramp as well as my other front end gear is plugged into a PS Audio PP600 regenerator.

My PC was built locally to be quiet, but not silent...although in quiet mode I can't hear it at my listening position.

Let me know when it is all wired.

Water cool!
Use a fan speed controller and large fans that run ultra quiet at low RPM’s.
My PC is quieter then most other things in the room/house.

WOW, Coolness.

I think DOS is combining Heatpipe and fan(s):  Lian-Li silent case, this CPU cooler http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/cpu/006/scnj1000p.html, 120mm fan with controller, dampers, paste etc. etc. from FrozenCPU.

My office PC uses the Scythe on a Core2 Duo. It’s GIANT and very difficult to get on and off the board. I won’t buy another one but they work nicely.

Hey Zybar, i am just wonndering what is the most recent AVA equipment you have heard?

Maybe you can't call it close to state of the art because you are too far away from it.  :)

Maybe in the near future I will hear some AVA equipment in my system so I can give you a more comprehensive viewpoint.

BTW, "State of the Art" is defined as The highest level of development, as of a device, technique, or scientific field, achieved at a particular time.

I don't think ANY of the gear we are talking about in this thread or in most threads on this site fits that definition.

That isn't a knock against your specific products Frank...heck, I wouldn't call ANY of MY gear SOTA.

Back to the main thread...

There are a lot of you munchkins that have huge egos that would never admit that your 50,000 dollar mono blocks with 3,000 dollar power cords and 13,000 dollar speaker cables could be less than "state of the art". I think it's state of the mind. To sum it up in a different way....pretty, pretty....shinny, shinny.

Let's compare hifi systems. I have 6. 3 of them are state of the art Audio by Van Alstine. Are you ready.

Wayner..you are the one who said they had SOTA gear in their system.

Why are you pointing fingers and bringing up the "ego" card?

Don't be a "hater".

If you like your system, who cares what anyone else thinks about it, or who cares what others have or what they think of it?
