Vinyl such a PITA

I've bought lots of used vinyl and most is near mint if not mint condition. Yes, you have to take it out of the sleeve and look at it before you buy, and no, you can't always tell if there are pops and clicks. With proper cleaning and degausing, almost all records can be brought into listenable shape. Wear is another story. My advice is to find a nice shop out in the sticks where the hillbillies live. They bought records but didn't play them much. aa

I note that the HiFi record, in my system with my gear to my ears, was essential in getting the anti-skate just right - the torture tests are fun, too! IMO, the devil is in the details in setting up a TT (change one parameter and probably it's worth it to recheck all the others to see if you've affected something else, etc.), and well worth the effort. Heck, I'm an unapologetic vinyl fan.

I live where the hillbillies live. I'm not the one that has a 4-wheeler with all of it's wheels coming off. Perhaps you are not very smart when it comes to audio, electricity or mechanics.

I guess this is a world full of instant gratification. Hard to be gratified, though, when one has a new turntable system and no records.

Exactly, now your a guy I respect. When you find a gold mine...you like to keep it a little quite. This place in my town has about 10,000 albums priced between $2.00 and $20.00 and I have brought home so many classics that are in the most perfect shape. If I were to go into the cities, I think the selection would be well picked over.

How about we just compare our main rigs....since that's the one MY comparisons are done on.

The one thing that can't be compared is our hearing...and after the things you have posted, either your hearing can't be very good, or you haven't done very good comparisons.

If you've never heard of Symphonic Line...you can only get my Kraft mono 400's by special order at $36K per pair...The phono cart is around $5K. You should be able to figure the prices on my other gear pretty easily.

I didn't want to think this hard, but I have at least 9 systems in the house set up and one at the office. I have no idea how many systems I could put together with equipment not set up.

I have 11 speakers sculpted from marble....and they....ROCK!

Guess we have much different views of "state of the art".

While I am sure the AVA gear is good, I wouldn't come close to calling it SOA.

Just because you spend lots of money doesn't mean you have SOA. AVA has been at quite a few shows and many were very impressed. Dollars don't equal quality. And Zybar, who cares? I don't.

Who said anything about money?

Lord knows cost doesn't equal performance in this hobby and I never have said it does.

I couldn't agree more and have never said the opposite.

One thing Frank VA has is good taste when it comes to speakers.

Not many have heard my amps..Klaus Bunge of Odyssey thinks they are in the top 3 amps in the world.

Many think that the Empirical I2s Turbo Off Ramp and modded Benchmark DAC-1 (upsampled from a PC to 24/96) is one of the best digital front ends you can get.

My Dodd battery based pre-amp is the best pre-amp I've heard in any system.

There are better speakers than my Salk Signature Sound HT3's (fully loaded) but I haven't heard any for more than twice the price.*

I tuned my cables to my system by my ear for the sound I most wanted to get.

I have 8th Nerve seams and triangles as well as 4 GIK 244 panels, 2 GIK Bass Monster traps, and a pair of GIK TriCorner Traps. for room treatment.

I think it sounds rather good.

Now how did you want to do this comparison?

I did not go into my analog system since I don't listen to it too much, but let me know if you want the details...

* with the possible exception of the Ridge Street Sason.
