So I guess I could put some diffusion in front of the couch and move it behind it if I'm having company

There you go. We even have stands to make that easier.

So get the closer model? as it would typically be 3 feet from the lilstening position.

Yes, unless you plan to move things around later.

Nah, I think that's about it.  Would I look to put one (or more) directly behind the listening position or on either side of the listening position at the opening to the alcove?

Diffusion is not needed at places where sound is not aimed at least indirectly. So behind you is good, but way over on the sides is probably less useful. In all honesty, I haven't tried putting 20 diffusors in a room all around the side walls etc. Maybe it'd be great! The first person to buy 20 diffusors gets a free personal visit from me! :D

I assume you'd probably also get stands if you get a few diffusors for the window wall behind you, so that would make it very easy for you to experiment and see what happens in various places in your specific room.

I suspect Art still has nightmares about the 6 hour sweep-tone marathon we enjoyed when playing with the placement of his tube traps!

Of course, you're a professional, so it would probably be a far shorter, more productive session! :D

6 hours! That's impressive. Most just plop their traps where they make sense theoretically... at least that's what I did. Arthurs... your room looks really nice. Are the lamps from IKEA? j/k I did my room up with extensive treatments and have really enjoyed the benefits.

Nightmares?  Marvin and I are still in group therapy over it....

Ethan, I'll ping you offline about the diffusors.  I have to get my TT in and installed and diffusors will be after that.

The lamps are from Pottery Barn....

Fantastic room. Nice decor and great gear...:) I wish i had a big room like yours...mine is only 12x14 even though it's my dedicated room. Would you mind sharing the technique and where to get the material to make cylinder trap? By the way, thanks for sharing the pics.

Enjoy..

Michael, thanks much!  Someday soon I'll write out what it took to build them, but kind of swamped for that now.  If you like, I can walk through it by phone with you, I have for a couple other guys.  Shoot me an e-mail and I'll give you a call.
