It is another Friday and it is almost Martini time in Boston.  I have been waiting for a responsive Olive for my Martini for some time now.  Somehow, Olive to pry the cover off of the top of the bottle and speak.   (tic)

Phil, I understand your theory that Robert from Olive should not get into an on-line discourse.  But, there is no reason at all why any audio manufacturer should refuse to respond to email questions from prospective customers.  This off-line refusal to communicate cannot be condoned - it can only be condemned!  With a net result of loss of sales.  That is certainly his choice.  But, it is not one that any consumer oriented business person should ever consider.

Great Thread!

F-Opus and F-Olive too!

I’m picking up a nice small laptop computer for my audio rig.
I can remote control the desktop from another WinXP machine in my house or use a media remote control with it and I can use whatever DAC I want and in the end, have a much better machine that’s more flexible.

If I had cash to burn on an Opus, I’d save up a few more coins and buy this:

McIntosh MS300
http://www.mcintoshlabs.com/mcprod/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=19&cat=Sources&prodid=1113&product=MS300

BTW: The price differences between the 400GB to 750GB models are $500 each! Are they F’n insane>? Who are these jokers?  :icon_twisted:

Not for a fleeting moment are these stupid pieces of crap worth more then a few hundred dollars. $3000 to $4000 ?! WHAT!

Someone call the Audio police and file a report.  :x

Well the only way there could be 4 dacs is if they are all built into the 28-pin U6
Based on the pic, U6 is the only part that looks like a dac...

Are you sure U6 is TI/Burr Brown?

Ok, believe it or not, I spent a little time going thru the Burr-Brown website looking through DACs. :bounce:  Its true that they only make one DAC that is listed as "4 DACs" in one chip.  However, there are a number of "2 DAC" chips which also feature balanced outputs (see any of the PCM179x DACs), which implies that there are technically 4 DACs inside (two +, two -), right?

ANOTHER BIG LIE!
You know about: four 24-bit DACs LIE , its just a 2 channel Dac, NOT a 4 channel DAC!!!

NOW REGARDING THIS: and temperature-compensated crystal oscillator............ ANOTHER LIE!

It's just a cheap generic CRYSTAL!  :rotflmao:

Here is the spec sheet of the cheap bottom of the heap crystal

Following this thread I get this feeling.  I don't think Olive should be castigated for doing something too well.  I think they took the hyperbole in advertising to a new level that actually made people believe everything they read.  Let's think about it.  If we step back and take in the bigger picture in audiophilia, any front end that does what Olive claims Opus does costs thousands more.  We just didn't read between the lines..........  :slap: You and I should be chided for being taken. :stupid: I am feeling the blues this morning.

Woodsyi,
It would only cost them less than $10 a unit to deliver what was advertised.
Plus.. you see Robert from Olive hiding under alias on the Stereophile Forums as "proaudio"
And Yesterday, I was arguing with Robert from Olive on this thread.

Can you and your idiot conspiracy theory bullshit please take a hike from AC as in permanently? Some of us enjoy what Srajan brings to the audio community and to this site. Audio Asylum welcomes wankers like yourself. Or check out Audio Karma. Or Audio Review. Or the Audiogon forums. Or Chuck Josephson might need a friend. Plenty of internet audio boards out there besides AC to spin your shit on. Go-please.

Whatever Anthony said, at least he doesn't use the "W" word to describe any individual, that's a real despicable word, a word that I won't want to teach my kid to use.

HOW MUCH WOULD THAT COST OLIVE? A FREE OPUS? aa
WOULD YOU THROW IN PRODUCT OF THE YEAR AWARD TOO? Laughing

Eric the Red - Don't think that this is a "theory" anymore. Facts speak louder than words or apparent paranoid tendencies. Also, with all due respect, you don't speak for the AC community. I'm sure that your "mature" observations re. MM have been noted. As per your argument, by extension, lots of other threads and sites to browse for those who disagree with the intent/direction of this thread.  8)
Now, just where is that ROBERT?

I believe MauiMods has already been asked to stick to the facts, and in the post to which ETR is responding, he quite clearly isn't.

Phil, I understand your theory that Robert from Olive should not get into an on-line discourse.  But, there is no reason at all why any audio manufacturer should refuse to respond to email questions from prospective customers.

If he's refusing to take *any* emails from customers, that is poor customer service.  However, if he is refusing to respond to emails that are asking him questions about this specific set of interactions with Anthony, I can also understand that.  As a dealer, I would *never* discuss a customer-service issue of one customer with another customer.

If you send him an email to ask questions about the design of the Opus, IMHO he should be responsive and answer any question that does not compromise any intellectual property or trade secret.

Matt from Olive just called me.  Somehow, my email got transferred into his Out Box.  He did answer the questions that I raised.  So, from the customer service point of context, Opus has satisfied me.

Even more insulting is the $400 price difference between the 160GB and 250GB Musica models ($1099 & $1499).

That alone is reason enough for me not to do business with Olive.
