They have a saying here in Colorado: "If you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes." Don't count on being able to predict the weather for the RMAF by what's going on now.

Yes, the weather changes regularly and quickly here. Don't expect it to be the same on the days of the event either. Even in the dead of winter, it can snow one day and completely melt away the next.

These two pictures were taken out my office window on two consecutive days in Feb a while back:

Late October can be anything here - rain, sun, snow - 70s, 50s, 30s

One question: If I plan to buy something at the RMAF, to take into account some of the "special" pricing, does that means I have to bring tons of cash? What's the generally accepted practice here?

I have paid for things in various ways. Most vendors aren't expecting you to whip out a roll of 100 dollar bills to make a purchase on the big stuff.

Well, cash is ALWAYS king. Checks work well but CC's are easier and more trusted for large purchases if you're not buds.

yes.. Ideally I just want to carry CC... I am just not sure if all manufacturers will bring a credit card machine with them to the show..

I've purchased using a CC from several vendors at the past shows. One of them just wrote it on an old style (run it through the roller) CC receipt and processed it when he returned home. I haven't had any problems using a CC for purchases.

As others have mentioned, the weather is usually entertaining. It could be snowing for the show or it could be 70* and beautiful. We've had excellent weather for the previous shows, so I'm hoping for a three peat.

I really wish I could come but the wedding of one of my best friends is this weekend and the boss gave me one of those looks when I mentioned being gone two weekends in a row.

Anyway.... hope you guys have fun. I'm sending one of my Digital Amps for Al to use in Room 2017. A lot of people have expressed an interest in hearing them and both Al and I know they are a great match for his HT-8s.

Well I’m getting a list of must listen to rooms together, because if I don’t write them down a week after RMAF I’ll be kicking myself in the butt because I forgot 4 or 5 rooms

. Believe me if you don’t have a plan it will happen to you too.

So what are your must go to rooms, I know there will be rooms I didn’t even know about.
Plus you have seminars and concerts.

Just from here on AC, I'm definitely going to check out

ACI (never heard their stuff and the SapphXL is getting high praise)
RAW (heard a bit of the HT3 last year and it was great, looking forward to more)
AV123 (depends on what they bring - if it's the Strata Mini, check it out - I'll definitely be talking with the guys)

Lower priority (for me)

Salk (great stuff, but more than I'll be spending)
Selah (will be interested if they bring a pair of Tanzanites)
Bolder (interested in hearing a CDWG setup)
GR Research (interested in checking out the new omni stuff Danny is playing with - I also like to play a few loud things in there

)
HagTech (say hi to Jim)

I'm sure I missed some AC folks there, but this is off the top of my head.

For just sheer good sound to check out, regardless of price/interest, I'd like to check out:

Genesis (never listened to anything from them)
Gershman (the Black Swans sounded very good last year IMO)
Usher (made it to their room after they started break-down last time)
Eben (liked what I heard last year)
Zu (only herd a tiny bit last year and liked it - want to hear a bit more)
LINN (never heard any of their speakers)

I'll also keep an eye out for those in the under $5k category.

Oh yeah. Audio Federation (dealer) is a good room. It sounds good, is WAY expensive, but they staff get my nod for nicest hosts at the show.

first off, thanks guys for the compliments. we'll have a good show for you. Al handed me the live music job for the fest. and i've booked a couple of very cool acts; the Jamie Stone Project and Scott Von Band. i'll be doing sound for the shows as well as providing the gear. DA-1's for the mains, DA-2's and Daedalus pro speakers for the monitors. Jeff Rowland has been kind enough to provide amps for the mains and Empirical Design the cables. the concept is to keep the volume at a reasonable level with the highest possible sound quality, we're trying to get the feel of a live in the studio event. and yes i'll be digitally recording the show direct from the board so audience talking won't be an issue. there will be some concert style seating as well as tables , and the hotel will have a bar right outside the ballroom entrance, so we can grab a drink and relax. we're a bit concerned about getting people to come, so please check it out ; )
