Doug, thanks for the link.  At the price, its almost a no-brainer, but I hesitate because D911 may be trying to promote this as he mods them himself.   Kindof like if Dan Wright was to promote a CD player simply because he is the only one modding it (just an example).

Still, I would love to hear this piece.

Well,  as he says, just buy it and if you don't agree with his assesment you got 30 days to return it....

I'm looking forward to hearing the reviews on this.

well, i bought my di/o 1.5 years ago, after reading mikeam's post here:
http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?ddgtl&1003098758&openusid&zzMikeam&4&5#Mikeam

for the price, it was a no-brainer.  a few months and several mods later, i could safely say the thing is a great piece.  competitive w/high-dollar stuff: at this performance point, tastes come into play as to which dac ya may like best...

but, i really dint like cd before that, so i figured i dint have anyting to lose, dropping ~$120 for a di/o.  tho the art amps certainly aren't expensive, i *like* my present amps, & really don't have any aching desire to upgrade, like i did w/digital.

Doug,  I thought if you are to get one and have it mod perhaps I can swing by to check it out!     I am running the sound for my church and I think it would be a nice amp to run monitors on stage and/or at nursery.  Although I won't get one soon, I would like to get one to try eventually.

Doug, by the way thanks for the lead.  This is off-topic, but does anyone know any good sounding speakers that are front-ported so that they can be mounted on the wall serving as monitors.

Regarding self-promotion, a specific product, and that sort of thing, I'll add this input --

When I first caught the thread at initiation, I emailed him immediately, and have exchanged a handful of emails with a lot of questions since then.

All I can say is this -- he's very friendly, very professional, very knowledgable and very willing to do plenty of other work outside of a specific package.

If you're truly serious about doing the package, or have a component and want to let someone run with it, he definitely gives off the impression of someone you could trust, knows things in and out, and provides awfully cheap work.

Just my impressions.

Doug,

Thanks for the thread.  I am helping someone put together a new low cost system, so I am going to take the plunge.

BTW, in case anyone is interested in talking with Donald Nance who originated this thread at Audiogon and who is doing the ART SLA-1 modifications here is a link to his temporary web-site:

http://hometown.aol.com/benjifolks/myhomepage/business.html

The best price I have found for the SLA-1 is $199.00 at Broadcast Supply  Worldwide, but I'll be contacting Full Compass next week. Cost for the modifications posted on Don's website as of 5/24/03 are $500.00.

Please note that this if for informational purposes only, not a personal recommendation as I have not had an opportunity to listen to this amplifier.

Hello All. A member of Audiogon and Audiocircle informed me about the thread on this site. I am the guy that performs the mod on the ART amplifier. I thought I would join this site as well and answer any questions I could. Bare with me as I learn the little ins and outs of the site.
Best regards,

Don- Post something in the 'Market Square' forum here regarding the ART amp, your mods, and your contact information. That's the general protocol around here. If you do that you USUALLY won't get accused by anyone here of self-promotion (not that self-promotion by manufacturers ever happens HERE  ) nor will anyone get their panties in a wad like over at Agone.

howard, if ya work for chrch/nursery groups, ya should be able to get *them* to foot the bill for one of these cheapies - then ya can bring it over to my place for an audition!   :D

don, i tink you'll enjoy audiocircle - i never participate at a-gon anymore, due to their censorship of postings, & their overt favoritism towards their commercial sponsors, even at the expense of the customers.  i only saw the thread, as i said, cuz someone who knows i like my modded di/o, forwarded it to me.

now don, if ya wanna cut me a special deal on a modded art amp, cuz i started this thread here, i mite consider trying one!

ETR,

Generally that is the case, IF he had said I do "X" mod and it costs "X" dollars.

Since he did not do this his post is fine.  It looks like an introductory (introducing himself) post.

Welcome D911.

The Market Square section is for small manufactures/modders to post about new mods and products.

Please feel free to solicit business using that forum, and please feel free to participate in all the other ones.

Hi doug. Thanks for starting the thread. I am telling you the absolute truth when I say I am offering the mod at a bare minimum. Realistically with the parts and machining of the new body parts, it should be priced at about $1K. I am going to offer it  8) at $500.00 for as long as I possibly can.

Kind regards,
Donald Nance Jr
Enjoy your memorial day weekend

Alright, I'll ask... is this an integrated amp or a power amp? It says power amp throughout this post and everywhere that I've found it on the web, but your post about your system at Agon (D911) didn't list a preamp. And, I think that the knobs in the photo look like volume controls.

And... this unit has an active fan??? How loud is it?

Thanks for the info.
