Alright, I'll ask... is this an integrated amp or a power amp? It says power amp throughout this post and everywhere that I've found it on the web, but your post about your system at Agon (D911) didn't list a preamp. And, I think that the knobs in the photo look like volume controls.

And... this unit has an active fan??? How loud is it?

Thanks for the info.

The unit has 2 potentiometers and can be used as an integrated amplifier. You can also effectively remove them from the circuit by turning them fully clockwise and using a seperate preamp. The fan is removed as part of the modification I perform. i find the fan unacceptable for my ears. :)

re: the thread on a-gon, while my link in the 1st post still works, if ya go to a-gon & yust search their forum, the thread won't show up.  it wouldn't surprise me if they're up to their old tricks, censoring the forums, & protecting their big adwertisers, who don't seem to like any press about cheap, hi-quality electronics... :o

Not trying to rain on anyones hit parade or anything, but there are some really great inexpensive amps hitting the market at this time without the need of Moding as I see it.

One that I have orderd is the nOrh LeAmpII's which for $400 are a steal with outstanding components and build quality .Although I would not have bought the original LeAmps because of my veiling bias I have read they have and which I cannot live with after elimnating it from my amp. It is like going back to listening to a reciever again. No offense to reciever owners. I even hear this trait with Rotels top of the line reciever.

LeAmpII's
Anytime an amp can double it's output with each halving of Impedance down to 2ohms I take notice! Being Bias'd high into ClassA is another positive that takes the veiling out which I hear from most mid-fi stuff. These are just opinions as I have not recieved mine yet.

There is the ASKA amp that has gotten high praise!

There is also the Samson Servo.

Lastly there is the new Outlaw mono's which are fine for some apps, but I really do not think Class G I think they are are worthy of SOTA territory.

Just some thoughts!

On a-gon, do a search on ART and change the filter to "match ANY word". You will then see the thread under "Whats the best amp you know of".

Again thanks for the heads up.

hi don,

while i'm certainly interested in what ya find out, i awreddy know why - see my post above, re: how a-gon protects its big adwertisers...

i used to participate there regularly, but no longer - we had a few "run-ins" a while back & i don't subscribe to the same code of (non)ethics they do...

I have just sent them a letter asking what the deal is and basically telling them that  i just can't believe they would be involved in censoring. I will see what their response is and post it here.

They sent me a cryptic message saying that the FAQ addresses this issue. Here is the FAQ:
Why did my Forum thread disappear?
The forum archives are edited to insure that future readers may easily find useful information. Moderators regularly expire certain threads for a number of reasons such as: duplication of subject matter, or timeliness of a particular subject. In general, most threads remain online for at least 30 days, so that all interested parties may participate while the subject is relevant to current users. Some threads will then remain online indefinitely, while others will be removed.

This process allows future readers to find useful information quickly, without having to peruse hundreds of search results. As well, it allows our computers to respond much faster if the size of the database is kept within reasonable limits.

They are censoring plain and simple.

I remember seeing that thread ,but did not read it! Wish I had now.

Seems there is a double edge sword that is like the guy that rolls back prices on the Walmart commercial! Except it's "If we don't like it,It's slashed out!" Gotta to go,SLASH!

good analogy. You can still find the thread by using the instruction in my earlier post.

But i didn't know they would allow the thread, then make it difficult for people to find the thread.

FYI Interested Audio Circle members,

I took the leap and just sent Don (d911) my check for the ART amp with his modifications.  If everything goes well and the USPS does their thing, I should have a completed unit in 2-3 weeks.

I will post a review after a minimum of 100 hours of break in and compare it with my beloved Odyssey stratos.  If there is anyone in the Wilmington, DE - Philadelphia, PA area interested in a mini-shootout drop me a PM.

I am also expecting a MENSA audition kit from Wayne W., but probably not until late June.  I will be posting a review on my observations in the Critics Circle, not sure if I will have another DAC to do an A-B comparison.

Don, best of luck with your new batch of amps and thanks for letting all of us a Audio Circle know about your modification service.

Hi Don,

The ART looks like a nice, clean amp with a stiff power supply. What about the new Behringer EP1500 which is also very reasonably priced but has higher power. Would this amp be a good platform for your mods?

Very reasonable price!  If nothing else this would make an awesome sub amp.  But, they do say it is a very musical amp so maybe this is a breakthrough price:performance product.

Pro audio does seem to be an untapped source for home audio, if nothing else then as platforms for mods.  The ART DI/O is a great case in point.

don, when ya posted that thread, it looked like an innocent-enuff thread to a-gon.  but, when they realized it was a platform to adwertize yer mods, well, it was only a matter of time before it was gone!

I couldn't intelligently comment until I actually gained experience with that particular amplifier. If you have that amp and want it modded I do custom mods.  Pricing for custom mods is on a individual basis.
