We're on for the 18th!  Not sure if it'll be at Shane's or my place but probably Shane's since he has a bigger room, more space, more toys ;) , etc..

Also, I will be in Greensboro this weekend and I will be taking the SP's to Hantra (Brandon)'s place.  I'm not going to invite people for him but if he's interested, maybe he could host a small gather at his place... B?

So, that's the update... If anyone has a preference as to where, let me know.

Like I said ... golf, beer, and music ... 2 out of 3 ain't bad.  At the risk of pulling a 'Montreal', doesn't look like the Canes schedule is going to be an issue.  :D

No real preference on where, other than Shane has a bit more room for a crowd, and has hinted at other new toys.

Let's have it at Shane's, then.... I spoke to Shane tonight when I picked up the SP's.  I'm taking them to Gboro next... They like going for rides. ;)

I'll have them back for the gathering on the 18th.

See you all NEXT Sunday!

Thanks man. . . These are MC-501 monoblocks with the C2200.  Still using the Piega C3 Limiteds and Audience wire all around.  Just put in an Audience Adept Response tonight and checking it out, even though I don't really have room for it.

Stereophile actually got 1000 watts from the 4 ohm tap during their tests.  Not sure I can pull that from the wall, but. .

SP Tech's weren't bad.  Not my cup of tea, though they might benefit from some more demanding setup and tweaking than what we were able to do.

I can't recommend these amps enough though.  They are among the three best amplifiers I've heard in my life.

It was a genuine pleasure hearing Brandon's magnificent setup yesterday.  That system is one of the most emotionally attaching setups I've ever heard.  The details, imaging, etc. are all there but there's a very real synergistic match happening that puts you in your own world with the music.

I've always enjoyed Brandon's Piega's, regardless of what amp he used.  They're the only ribbons I can tolerate.  However, pairing the Macintosh gear gives the music a nice weight and sort of a classic oomph but with control and refinement.

The Piega's to me were not a fair comparison to the SP's since the Piega's are double the price (or more) and it showed.  However, it's always fun to hear new things! :)

One thing I did learn is that stuffing the ports (as Bob suggested to me) makes a vast improvement to help control the bass for your particular room.

      Looking forward to next Sunday...

It really wasn't fair, but not because my speakers are 4x more money.  We just didn't have the time to dedicate to setting up another speaker and listening.

And I am not about to move my speakers after spending several months getting them in the right spot.

The SP's are a heck of a lot larger in person than I ever imagined.   But don't worry C, you'll find the right speaker for you.

Sure... in my room, when I setup the SP's they had a big sound... a little too big for me... and my room already has a peak around 30-50Hz so, that 'node' or whatever was being excited by the bass of the Timepiece's.. So, when I explained this to Bob, he said to try putting a rolled towel, foam, or something in the port.  He went on to say the looseness of the material would play a roll in the bass tuning as well.  So, when I was at Hantra's place we rolled a couple of hand towels and stuffed the ports fairly tight.  It really controlled the bass... and didn't cause any problems in the midrange.  So, I was happy and am looking forward to trying it at home.  I haven't had a chance to do it today but I will sometime... and will experiment again at our meeting next weekend.

          Hope that helps...

Ditto ... although i will have some fathers day duties to attend to  ... earlier the better for me.

not sure what got into me, but went on a cable binge recently.  can bring/leave/let borrow several different PC's (including the much-touted Black Sand Silver Ref) and some speaker cables ... if anyone is interested.

I believe it's at my place on Sunday.... starts whenever I can drag my derriere out of bed (I'm hoping to be celebrating a bit after a more positive outcome of the hockey game Saturday night).  I think Carl is coming over on Saturday to help setup and fine tune things.

gotta run.... too much going on and not enough hours in the day...
