Carl,
So what finish/trim did you order?  I'm not using the Plinius right now, so if you'd like I can bring that over and leave for a while.

They are the studio finish... just black boxes...
What's cool is when you're playing it loud you can see the drivers move because the center cap (phase plug?) is stationary.  Fun. :)

Off to work... :(

So, maybe 1 weekend at my place and another weekend at yours?

Sounds good to me... I was planning to host a get together anyways soon..... it's just that my VR-7se's are taking longer than expected to get here... VSA is switching to a new, better finishing process from their cabinet shop and my speakers got delayed a bit... I was supposed to have them today, but it looks like a couple more weeks waiting.....  I'm not patient enough for this hobby :)

I've added a few other goo ...

Shane - why doesn't VS post measurements of their speakers? Tell me how they get the 10" Excel driver to -2db @15hz?

Maybe Albert doesn't post FR measurements because he knows they are meaningless.

15Hz is a typo on his web site.  It should read 150Hz.

How should I know? :)  Why is it that 99.99% of the manufacturers out there don't display measurements for their speakers?

Umm.. no...   for the very same reason I'm not going to tell you how he does his crossovers (which are pretty ingenious, btw)...  why would I do that?

I think they're exposing some weaknesses of the TacT amp, though... Are you listening, Shane?  ;)   You'd be insane not to take a listen to these speakers.  My doors are open... Pretty wild stuff.

I'll be taking you up on that offer soon... too much stuff going on at the moment... I need to fill you in on the latest news... some good times on this end :)

I may be opening up a can of worms here but I think it would be more interesting to see true, accurate "measurements" of a live concert! Measurements of speakers will not tell you how they sound. Only your ears can do that.

True, but measurements are an awfully good place to start IMHO.

Absolutely. measurements are the place to start with final voicing by ear taking any given product to it destination.

FYI... quick update...
This weekend is looking 'iffy' for a meet (at my place anyway)... If anyone is interested in hosting, let me know.  You can PM me or call 321-1384.
Thanks,

Looks like it's off for this weekend... the work I've been doing is taking forever.... and there is no way I could take 4-5 hours off for hifi fun... :(

I'm going to try to get in touch with Shane to see if he wants to host...

Thanks,
Carl

Carl,
Was talking to Claud last night ... what do you think about a meet sometime over Father's Day weekend?  If I get the great wall of fuquay and my tax return done by then, it's going to be just golf, music, and beer all weekend.

Which weekend is Father's Day?
This coming weekend might work for a small gathering... and I'd be happy to take them to someone's house.
I can't get over how big they sound...

Thanks,
Carl

June 18th is pretty far off... but plannable... ;)
I hope Bob is OK with it taking that long.

To Chris' comment, I've expereience the wall but beyond that, the imaging all over the room is really good... As I walk toward the speakers it's just odd how the image stays planted between them.  Just neat.

These speakers sound great but I would love to hear them in a little bit larger room.  I have an 11x13 and I think about 14x17+ could be even better.  I don't have scientific proof of that, just my hunch. ;)

I will try to work out some smaller gatherings between now and the 18th... but if that date works for everyone, we'll do it.

Thanks,
Carl

My guess this effect is the result of the 90 deg constant directivity.
