Last night I wandered into Best Buy and picked up:

* Strange Brew...  Curoookooo koo koo koo koo koooooooo   I can't wait to watch this stupid comedy again.  Maybe tonight.  It has been years.  How about some back bacon, eh?

* Stargate... Director's cut $14.99.  I watched this last night, and I had forgotten how good it is.  Very enjoyable sci-fi flick, and comparatively clean.  Beautiful transfer and awesome sound.

I have just heard that Deep Discount DVD is offering The Last Starfighter CE for a mere $13 bucks.  I'll probably have to pick that one up too.  I couldn't swallow a shelf price of $33, but the price has dropped!

I'll be picking up Donnie Darko tonight - watched it a few months ago and it's still in my head, usually a good indication I need to purchase. . .

This weeks trip to BB I picked up Donnie Darko as there was nothing new this week I had to have.

I'm glad I'd not picked up Darko before as it's only $10 now. I'd watched it some time back, but just not getten around to picking it up. Sometimes it pays to forget...

Just picked up The Bourne Identity, Run Lola Run, and Buffalo 66.  I picked them up used, though two were still shrink wrapped. :D

Dogberry,

I have not yet seen Run Lola Run...   Lots of folks seem to like it.  What's it about?  Is it any good?  Mainstream or quirky?

Run Lola Run is one of the fastest paced movies I've ever seen.  It's German, and kinda quirky, kinda about a botched heist, but more about the consequences.  It's short, like 80 minutes or so.  Highly reccomended!

I'll second that and add that the German 5.1 track is quite enjoyable.

And it's only $15 at BB, definitely worth the $.

Run Lola Run is a great flick, in fact it's one of those movies that I didn't see in the theater, read a couple reviews, somehow avoided a lot of the buzz and bought unseen which I was absolutely blown away by and watched it two nights in a row.  The other two movies this happened with were Matrix and Lord of the Rings FOTR - really!  I didn't buy into the hype for either movie and resisted both as much as I could but bought them in the end and now they are some of my favorites.  Although Matrix I watched 3 nights in a row, whoa that was good!

POTENTIAL SPOILER++Back to RLR, like dogberry said, 80 min movie with about 10-15 of setup, then it's the same 20 mins. repeated 3 times with just tiny things changing which change the entire outcome of the events.  It's crazy paced with a great techno soundtrack but a real thinker at the same time!  I just loved it but I've loaned it to 3 different people and they didn't care for it, so who knows!

I just picked up "Say It Isn't So" and the SuperBit "Das Boot".  I'd been meaning to get DB for quite awhile as I sold my "regular" directors cut version when I saw the ad for the SB one.

Just got back from BB. Picked up Wasabi (they finally had it) & The Transporter.

Haven't seen Wasabi before. But Reno is usually pretty good in action movies, so it's probably not bad.

Rob,

You'll have to let me know how "Say It Isn't So" is. I never saw it, and the previews left me wondering if it was good or horrid as I couldn't tell either way.

Ah Wasabi... me and my buddies really enjoyed that flick.

I have a buddy that ALWAYS picks bad movies where as my track record is very solid.  So we were bored so we decided to go watch a movie.  He wanted to see A Man Apart and I said we should rent Wasabi (guess who won).

Anyway I think I might pick it up after seeing it.   I really like Luc Besson and Jean Reno so this is a no brainer.

As for The Transporter I can't say I was a big fan.  I just have trouble seeing cars getting side swipped and then blowup.

Just picked up Treasure Planet on release week... What a visually beautiful movie.  During some of the bass heavy scenes, a struggling woofer driver finally gave up the ghost.  Upgrade time!

BB just got the SB "XXX" today, and I'm agonizing over buying it.  Unfortunately they've only got 2 in stock and they aren't real quick about getting more, as a rule, when they sell SBs.  I loved the flick, but I've been blowing a lot of cash lately on CDs, SACDs, DVD-A & A/V furniture.

I should take my regular version down to Disc Go Round along with my "original remaster" AC/DC discs and old DSotM...

Junk your regular xXx and get the SB version!

The regular version looked like ass (purposely I'd bet knowing Sony). Not to mention that it didn't sound so hot.

The SB version is probably pretty damn good. I'd tell you how it compares myself, but I haven't gotten mine from Canada yet. I decided to order all 4 of last weeks SB releases from Canada along with a Canadian exclusive disc so that I'd save a bit of cheese on the SB discs.

So far all the SB discs I've seen have creamed the standard version; Residen Evil, particularly, looks amazing on SB, greatly superior to the original DVD.

I do plan to get xXx on SB, it's just a matter of when.  I bought and installed a bigger hard drive yesterday (primarily to store uncompressed PCM tracks for compiling CDs), so I've nearly tapped my 'petty cash' allowance for the week.

Did you like the movie itself?  I thought it was a blast.

How old are you?...

Got my SB discs today from Canada. Just popped the xXx disc in to see how much nicer it looks. It looks much, much better. Just how it shoulda looked in the first place.
 :cuss: Sony bastards

Will check out the audio later when I can crank it a bit. Don't think any of my room mates would like me cranking xXx in DTS at midnight.

Is no one buying a new movies as of late?

Or are you all just as lazy as I've been and not posted anything about your latest acquisitions?...

I'm too wore out today to list what I've picked up in the last week or two (as it's more than a disc or two). I should get to it tomorrow.
