Uberbuss questions
« on: 7 Dec 2025, 04:54 am »
Danny I have a question about the Uberbuss.  I am not positive but I have a feeling that the power in my area is below average.  I haven't had any testing done and I thought about calling out the electric company to do a study to find out.  My question is does the Uberbuss help when the electricity sags or surges?

Why would it?  The Uberbuss is a GR product from what I understand which might be assembled by P.I. Audio.   :dunno:

In the past, Uberbuss has MOV's for surge; no regulation though.

Danny said GR Research assembles the UberBUSS.

Yes, I think it is very important Danny clarified that. I am interested to have a UBERBUSS in my system later on.

Me, too. I'll consider sending Danny some Furutech receptacles for a custom version if that's an option.

I was interested in the Uberbuss a while back when my never ending quest for electrical silence came to an abrupt end in defeat.  The little bit of 120hz transformer buzz coming from my high gain amps with Danny’s efficient Otica’s is likely part of my issue there.  I live with it.  In my old above ground wired neighborhood perhaps the Uberbuss would help, perhaps not.  Just last night a friend and I played the 5 audio samples from New Record Day.  My take on the A/B was that B was more natural and had deeper and more impactful bass response.  I was shocked when I saw the reveal and it was only Uberbuss and power cords doing that.  It for sure re-energized my quest for electrical improvements.  Consider me intrigued.  What is in the Uberbuss?  Is it just high quality filter caps?  From the clips I heard it certainly doesn't appear to limit current.

Guys, I have held off responding to this thread because I was looking for some clarification. I have not received a response yet.

The Site owner messaged me that he does not want it (UberBuss) or him (the designer) being discussed or promoted on this site.

Currently the UberBuss is a GR Research product. We own the rights to make them. We do make make, and we sell them.

Maybe additional clarification is forth coming.

Maybe you just need to rename it.

The designer of the UberBUSS, Dave Elledge was banned from this forum over differing viewpoints with the site administrator.

Nah. The name has amassed significant intrinsic value over many years.

This is a interesting topic. BrandonB, why do you feel that you're getting bad power ? I have the same concerns at my place but I live at the end of my road, little over a 1/2 mile from the neighborhood transformer with about 6 houses between me and the transformer. My solution is going to be a grid tied battery bank where everything in the house runs off battery power and the batteries are tied to the grid to get recharged and provide a few hours of backup power during outages.

It's a GR-Research product.  GR-Research is a member here in good standing.    The product has a long history and following of satisfied customers.

Cool. I'm also interested in the response to the OP's question about the Uber helping with sags and surges...

No, it will not have an affect with those issues.

It no longer has MOV's per the original design?

A few days ago, on another audio forum, Dave posted this: "The BUSSes never had MOVs, unless my customer requested them."

Danny, is surge protection an option customers can request?
