The dspNexus 2/8 for speaker frequency response correction with Magnepan 1.7i's

Have a pair of used stock Magnepan 1.7i's in for testing for dspNexus 2/8 use in my room.  This is with the original passive crossover in use.  Here is what the measurements show and what is possible with the system using REW for the measurements and frequency response corrections.

The 58Hz dip in response is the ceiling to floor cancellation at my seat with the placement of the speakers.  Both speaker channels are frequency corrected independently.

This is what correcting your speakers, in your room, in your listening seat can do.  And yes, they sound much better. 🙂

The use of a passive crossover is just so wasteful anymore unless one wants a simple set and forget setup. 


The best crossover is one in the digital domain!

I agree.

If people that own a speaker system and do not want to modify them for direct drive they can still see a large improvement. 

Later, if they decide to modify the speakers for direct drive they can use the dspNexus 2/8 for that as well with a different DSP crossover design, no new hardware needed for more improvement.

Question:

How do you minimize the PHASE SHIFT produced when equalizing with REW? It's audible from 300-400 Hz. For lower frequencies, there is no problem.
Obviously, I am thinking about high-quality, dynamic recordings (DR > 11 dB), with real instruments and vocals without Autotune.

With REW I am making no attempt to adjust the phase of the response other than what the IIR filters apply.

I listen to unamplified classical music and vocal music and I do not detect any phase problems affecting them after correction. 

If a user wanted to do processing for phase response correction within the capabilities of the ADSP21569 dspBlok, then they can use other software tools to create the filter coefficients for processing and import them to the processing block needed in Audio Weaver.
