Hello Everyone,
  My first post ever on an audiophile site - thank you!  I am fortunate enough to have a Dodd Buffer and have read your threads to get a C-tek 3300 but I do not know what cord to buy to connect the battery to the buffer.  Attached is a photo of the back of the buffer.   Thank you all so much!

Those buffers were a screaming steal when they came out.  I had Gary convert mine to a full active preamp... just a bit more dynamics.

Sorry, one more Newbie question.   I know these plugs have 3 connections including a ground.  May I assume with the two lead battery connection, I do not need a ground?  Thank you.  Looking forward to using the Dodd with my Eico HF 86 and Altec Santanas!

You dont need a ground IMO, however you have to determine if your connector are Speakon(4 poles) or Powercom(3poles).
Said it I could very much prefer remove the chassis connector showed on the photo at the post #1 and solder the battery cable direct in the circuit to avoid contact losses and to a more minimalist layout.

DO NOT wire directly to the board.  The PowerCon connectors are about as good as it gets.  Going into the board for some incredibly tiny gain isn't worth the risk of screwing up the board.

The Powercon connector has a diode installed to protect against reverse DC wiring, so it is the protection circuit.  As S Clark said, do not bypass the connector.

Well, despite all of your great help, I failed miserably.  I connected the battery leads to the Powercon connector (black in left, red in neutral, no ground) and hooked it up to the 12 volt power sonic battery and Dodd buffer which resulted in immediate smoke from the battery.   I hope I did not fry the buffer.  If anyone knows where I may but a premade Powercon connector with battery leads since clearly I did not something wrong I would be most appreciative.  Thank you for your patience with my ineptitude.  Dave

Most likely the diode blew the fuse and the diode has burnt. 

Check the fuse and open the case to look at the black 10A diode on the Powercon connector. 

The unit might be fine, but do not try to reconnect it until the inspection and parts replacement.

Well, I guess I blew the buffer as nothing lit up (tube included) with connection to the 12v battery.  The fuse is fine and I don't see anything untoward when I open the preamp but the next step is finding someone to repair this if possible.   Thank you all for your help as always.  Dave

Speakon or Powercom?
