A Weller soldering gun for the big stuff in tube gear. A couple of Weller irons in a dual iron stand and a Metcal station mostly for the really small stuff. Have a bunch of different tips for each, several different solders and paste fluxes. The Weller irons get used most, but the gun and the Metcal have their place and being able to switch to the right one makes everything a lot more efficient and enjoyable. There are other brands out there that probably work as good as the Wellers, but the Metcal is mil spec and hard to beat for small, sensitive parts (but expensive). I will buy a digital display variable temperature station to replace the Weller irons when they fail eventually. What you can use comfortably is important too. The smell of solder in the morning smells like....Victory!! maybe that's why I have never bothered with a fume extractor.
