i made a call to a guy who has a friend in watertown who knows just about everyone-he's going to let me know what he can find out- if anything-

I have just read this thread from start to finish and cannot believe that nobody has mentioned this.....

That Meadowlark sell their more expensive speakers built to order. There are probably a number of people who paid $12,000 for their Blue Herrons and are waiting for them to arrive (the waiting time is about 3 months apparently)

of course they are never going to get their speaker or their money back

It's bad enough to stiff the lendors, but at least they knew there was a risk.

I would hope he's fixed things for any customers whose speakers were in the works...

You all are real class acts. It's real nice of you guys to start claiming they're doing things that haven't actually been done yet. Before you all start bad mouthing them, why don't we wait and see what exactly is going on. Neither of you actually know that they're "stiffing" customers.

They'll probably never get their speakers, but the money is probably safe with their dealer...

unless of course the dealer has already paid the manufacturer, in which case it will be the dealer who has to wear the refund to the customer.

Or if they bought directly as those in areas without dealers (like Colorado) would have done.

for a few years I have heard that VSA also left watertown hi and dri. Can this also be verified?

I didn't say they were. I only hoped that customers were being taken care of.

As for stiffing creditors, it sure sounded like Watertown felt it was being stiffed.

I had sent an e-mail to Meadowlark more than a month ago asking about their products and have yet to get a response...

I don't think it was VSA though, that's the name of his new company.

Well whether it was VSA or mr. Von Schweikert - if hes a principal in both then the names sematics.

so the question remains, did mr. von Von Schweikert or one of his company leave watertown hi and dri?

I heard that he did. I'd point you in the direction of the audiogon thread, but it's been deleted. Funny you mention hi and dri - one of the reasons he folded up there was the result of a catastrophic flood.

I know this sounds like Vultures picking over the bones but....

It might be a good time to get a speaker bargain, travel directly to the factory if in the area and offer a wad of cash e.t.c

Better an Audiophile enthusiast get a bargain than everything go into the hands of the banks administrators

It gets kind of sticky once they've filed. I don't think the creditors would approve of anything being sold like that.

It's possible that you could pick stuff up when the creditor's sell or auction it off...

I would think the loan holders would be in control of Meadowlark inventory now and , as reported , there is not enough inventory to cover the loans . There might be an auction further down the road for agencies to recoup some of their losses.

Kind of a reach to blame the economy isn't it? Without knowing business practices and decisions made which to me would probably have a lot more to do with wheter or not they stayed afloat. Maybe it was milked for all it was worth and is now being torched, leaving the creditors in the lurch? That sure smells more likely at this point since the ownership seems to have dissappeared...

Honest business's go bankrupt, and the owners are often ashamed and don't know how to handle it.

I would hope that's the case here.

After being around the owners of audio companies for around 5 years now, I can safely say that's it's a great hobby and a very difficult way to make a living. God bless those who can do it year in and year out.
